A previously reported multi-vehicle collision on Stoney Trail, heading Eastbound, east of the QEII has been cleared.

Motorists had reported on Thursday morning that the QEII was severely congested, with reports that there were several vehicles in the ditch on Southbound Stoney Trail.

There are reports of fog patches developing on the QEII highway heading in both the Southbound and Northbound directions, which may further impede motorists.

Southbound travel from Airdrie to Calgary on Thursday morning may be slowed with shoulder ice and snow on the highway, icy sections, as well as black ice and icy wheel paths, while Northbound travel from Airdrie to Crossfield may also be slippery and slushy.

Road conditions have improved since earlier this week. Warmer temperatures have resulted in snow and ice melting, making for messy, but fair driving conditions. 

Earlier this week, due to snowfall, Mounties issued a warning to motorists. 

Police previously advised that roads north of Airdrie on the QEII between Carstairs and Crossfield, in both the Southbound and Northbound directions were slippery due to snow. Police asked that motorists drive to the conditions of the road and that there may be congestion and delays due to weather.

On Wednesday afternoon, Airdrie RCMP received a call regarding a multi-car collision. The scene of the collision is now clear.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident northbound on 8th Street, just before Railway Avenue.

Firefighters were on the scene cleaning up fluid from the vehicles while also cleaning up glass and debris.  

RCMP says no major injuries have been reported and the cause was determined to be distracted driving.

Reports are also stating that the QE2 near Crossfield is very icy and to drive with caution. 

Alerts are in place for Rocky View County near Airdrie, Crossfield, Cochrane, Olds and Sundre.

Strong winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are expected today. Currently the wind is coming from the southwest at 14 kilometers per hour gusting to 52. 

Winds from the west will strengthen today. These strong winds will continue until this evening.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

A 42-year-old man has died after a head-on collision involving an SUV and a pick-up truck pulling a cattle trailer on Highway 9, just north of Highway 564.

According to Mounties, Airdrie Rural RCMP were called to the collision at 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening.

Previously, police advised motorists that traffic was unable to travel on Highway 9 and was diverted for several hours. 

The RCMP collision reconstructionist team attended the scene.

A devastating motor vehicle collision unfolded on the QEII on the evening of October 23, 2023, near Blackfalds.

Ponoka RCMP was swiftly dispatched to the scene, responding to the incident that occurred in the north-bound lanes of Highway 2, near Township Road 400 in Lacombe County.

Airdrie RCMP is currently on the scene of multiple minor collisions in both directions on the QEII between Airdrie and Calgary.

Airdrie RCMP is advising major delays and is requesting motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

No serious injuries are reported and the collision was attributed to poor winter road conditions.

According to reports, the backroads into Airdrie are just as bad with vehicles in the ditch.

 Didsbury RCMP advises that Highway 2A, between Township Road 320 and 314, is now passable.

The highway was closed earlier due to a school bus rollover.

A few hours ago, RCMP reported that there were nine students, two teachers and the driver on the bus at the time of the collision. Five of those on the bus were transported to various hospitals via ground ambulance for a range of injuries, some considered serious, but not life-threatening.  

Road conditions at the time are believed to be the cause of the collision, however, it is still under investigation.
