First major snowfall to hit NWO on horizon

Get your boots, shovels, and snowblowers out as the region is expected to be hit by the first major snowfall of 2022. 

Heavy snow is expected to fall Thursday morning into Friday afternoon - anywhere from 10-25cm, depending on your area. With the storm, heavy wind gusts and reduced visibility are expected. 

Kenora -Total snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm.
Dryden - Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm.

Second Street closure in Dryden today

Dryden drivers are warned of more road work and delays in the community today.

The City of Dryden says Second Street, from Mary Avenue to Park Avenue, will be closed to traffic until 7 p.m. today as crews work on repairs to the wastewater collection system.

School buses in Carstairs cancelled

According to the Chinook's Edge School Division, all Carstairs bus routes are cancelled due to road conditions, though schools are open.

"Today is an inclement weather Yellow Day. Buses are not running in Olds including Horizon, Innisfail, Bowden, Spruce View and Penhold today but our schools are open and classes are being held. Please check Google Classroom or email for alternate learning activities if your child is unable to attend school," a statement read on the school division's website.

Weather continuing to cause havoc on roads; reports of spun-out vehicles

There are reports of a vehicle that has spun out on Highway 2 Southbound near Highway 566 Westbound. Drivers are asked to reduce their speed and be prepared to stop and expect traffic delays on their morning commute.

There are also reports of several vehicles spun out on the exit ramp from Eastbound and Westbound Yankee Valley Boulevard to southbound QEII. Expect delays in the area.

Delays on Thunder Lake Road today

Drivers in the Thunder Lake Road area are warned of some traffic delays.

The City of Dryden says Thunder Lake Road, from 1144 Thunder Lake Road to Johnson’s Beach, will be closed to all traffic until 4 p.m. today as crews work to replace a culvert.

All-day closure on Duke Street today

Drivers in Dryden will see some delays on Duke Street today.

The City of Dryden is warning drivers that Duke Street, from Hearst Avenue to Memorial Avenue, is closed to all traffic today until 7 p.m., as crews work on repairs to the water distribution system.

The overpass will remain open and accessible from Memorial Avenue.

Roadway repairs, closure for Coker Road

Drivers north of the Kenora Bypass are warned of delays in the Coker Road area.

The City of Kenora says a portion of Coker Road, east of Kelly Road, is closed to all traffic until further notice, as contractors work on road repairs. Traffic control is in place.

The City apologizes for the inconvenience and reminds the community to always slow down and move over near working crews.

Crossfield resident dead in Highway 2A collision

The RCMP have confirmed one person is dead following a crash that occurred just before noon at the intersection of Highway 2A and Dickson Stevenson Trail, South of Crossfield.

According to the RCMP, an SUV turned northbound onto Highway 2A from Dickson Stevenson Trail when it was struck by a commercial vehicle that was travelling southbound on Highway 2A.
