Weyburn food bank in need of staples

With the start of the school year, the Weyburn Salvation Army Food Bank is putting out a call for some items that are in high demand. 

In a post on social media, they highlighted some specific items, such as cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, soup, canned meats, and more. 

Items that are in need can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Food Bank, at 8 4th Street NE. The offices for the food bank are accessed at the door in the rear.

COLBOW, WALTER FREDERICK, late of Pangman, Saskatchewan, born April 9, 1953, passed away June 15, 2024 at the age of 71 years. A Come & Go Celebration of Walter’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Khedive Heritage Hall, Khedive, Saskatchewan. A light lunch will be provided. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Weyburn Humane Society at PO Box 1062, Weyburn, Saskatchewan, S4H 2L3.

AKEXANDER, NORMAN “GERALD” late of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, born July 6, 1925, passed away September 9, 2024 at the age of 99 years. The Interment will take place Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan and the Memorial Service will follow, Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Weyburn Free Methodist Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend Jody Pfeifer and Reverend Wade Fitzpatrick officiating.

Meet this years Safety Patrol at St. Micheal School!

With the school year back in full force comes a reminder of safety precautions in school zones. 

For some Grade 6 students at St. Michael's School, it means going the extra step by being on the safety patrol. 

The Patrol ensures the students are safe while crossing the road and getting to their desired location. 

Monique St. Onge, one of the students, says she feels happy to be a. part of it. 

"I was excited to do this because my sister did it last year."

WPS: Trespassing at old ethanol plant leads to arrests

The Weyburn Police Service is reminding people to stay away from old buildings that are in the process of being demolished after a call in the early morning hours last Saturday. The call came after a security company found two people who were inside the compound of the old ethanol plant, which is currently being demolished.  

Massier, Robert “Bob” Charles

Robert “Bob” Charles Massier, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on September 9, 2024 at the age of 87 years.  

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, SK with Pastor Victoria Mwamasika officiating.  Luncheon will follow the service at the McKenna Hall, 317 ~ 3rd Street, Weyburn, SK.  A Private Family Graveside will be held at a later date.  

Weyburn senior golfers finish season with $1500 toward irrigation project

The Weyburn Senior Men's Golf wrapped up their 2024 season yesterday. Throughout the season the group participated in a 50/50 on Tuesdays and Thursdays to raise money to pay ff the Front Irrigation Project debt. $1500 was raised this year bringing the total amount contributed by the group to $6200 in the last four years.  

The cheque was presented to Manager Chad Brock by Executive Stan Runne, Don MacKinnon, and George Mcleod and 50/50 chairperson Murray Benson. 

Weyburn Police Service receives $238K for two new officers

The provincial Minister of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, Paul Merriman, was in Weyburn this morning to announce $238,000 in funding for two new police officers for the Weyburn Police Service. It is part of $17.1 million in new funding announced last week for a multi-ministry initiative to help create safer neighbourhoods across the province.  

Marcel Roy comments on seeking for third term as mayor

Mayor Marcel Roy has announced he will be running for a third term in office. He offers his highlights from the past two terms including infrastructure, recreation, industry and community developments. 

One of the first projects completed in Roy’s time as mayor was seeing through the repairing of the water treatment plant after the project was started by the previous council. He says similar developments have continued throughout his time as mayor.
