TikTok to Treasures: Weyburn keychain library becomes a community hit

This summer, one Weyburn family decided to bring a unique experience to the Opportunity City.  

“This summer we’ve been doing a pretty fun thing in our family with the keychain library outside of our house,” said Jessica Hunter, the woman behind this initiative. “We got the idea off of TikTok, from an artist named Mike Bennett, who started it in Portland and we thought we’d bring it to Weyburn.”

Grain Rush driven by Great Plains Ford continued today as we took some delicious KFC out to Shane McIntosh and his crew, thanks to I-Zan Tire.  

McIntosh noted that they are about halfway through harvest but have to wait a bit longer to finish up, particularly with their barley.

The meeting will begin with the approval of four items on the consent agenda, the Cash Activity Report for July, the Planning and Development Report for July and August, and the Water Treatment Plan Report for August.

With harvest season underway in the Redvers area, fire safety remains a top priority for farmers and motorists alike. Brad Hutton, fire chief for Redvers Fire and Rescue, shared practical advice to prevent field and equipment fires during this busy time of year.

“Some equipment is obviously gonna have big headers on it or squatters, and it'll just be slow-moving,” Hutton said. “Patience on the farmers' part and also just motorists using the highways is always a good thing.”

Onslaught of sports betting ads make gambling seem enticing to youth, doctors say

Doctors are calling for restrictions on sports betting ads, saying they are setting youth up for a future of problem gambling.

An editorial published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal on Monday says the ads are everywhere during sports broadcasts and that the legalization of online gambling has made every smartphone a potential betting platform.

Editor Dr. Shannon Charlebois says even though betting sites say they're only for people 19 years of age and older, youth are being inundated with advertising that equates enjoying sports with betting.
