WHS hosting Pet Appreciation Month BBQ this weekend
The Weyburn Humane Society is getting ready for a summer of fun with a variety of fundraising events and raffles taking place. The fun starts this weekend as on Saturday, June 21st, they will be heading to PetValu Weyburn celebrating Pet Appreciation Month. Beverly Paul, board member with the Weyburn Humane Society welcomes everyone out to enjoy.
Tornado Watch issued for the Weyburn area
Environment Canada issued a Tornado Watch for the Weyburn and McTaggart area just after 5 p.m. on Thursday:
A low-pressure system is moving into Southeast Saskatchewan which will trigger severe thunderstorms this afternoon. These severe thunderstorms will then move into Southwest Manitoba by the early evening. Conditions are favourable for these severe thunderstorms to produce tornadoes.
Large hail up to 6 cm, wind gusts to 110 km/h, and heavy rain are also likely. The tornado and severe thunderstorm threat should diminish by the later evening hours.
City inviting everyone to Party in the Park at River Park this Friday
The City of Weyburn will host the Party in the Park this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at River Park. It'll include a barbecue and a variety of fun activities for the whole family.
"We've got lawn games, we've got a fun new event this year, those bumper balls. So we're just really excited to have everyone come out and get to know our team and just get to explore the beautiful River Park along with us," invited Communications Coordinator Paige Tenbult.
Police, rescuers respond as rock slide hits hikers in Banff; injuries undetermined
Rescue crews, police and paramedics scrambled to a remote region of Banff National Park late Thursday amid reports that a group of hikers were hit by a rock slide, causing possible injuries and deaths.
“The initial report indicated there were multiple hikers and there may be serious injuries and/or fatalities,” RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said in a news release.
Parks Canada, in a statement said, it is responding to a report of "a serious rockfall incident with involvement near Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park."
Police, Fire Services respond to incident on King Street
The Weyburn Police Service and the Weyburn Fire Department responded to an incident at an apartment building on King Street north at around 2:30 Thursday afternoon, with residents of the building being evacuated and the road blocked off at the intersection of King Street and Douglas Road.
The fire hose was connected but there was no evidence of smoke at the scene, which was cleared within the hour.
No further details are available at this time.

The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation (WDHF) held their annual general meeting last night, outlining the success they’ve seen in the past year.
Board Chair for the foundation Jeff Hayward says the main highlight was the immense progress in the construction of the hospital, which is over 75 percent complete and is set to open next June.

Ocean Man First Nation is celebrating Aboriginal Day, and community togetherness, with their parade hosted by the Town of Stoughton tomorrow.
Ocean Man Health and Wellness Coordinator, and event organizer, Arnold Akachuk, says they originally set out to celebrate Aboriginal Day, but it quickly became more than that.
Coming rain will keep southeast crops happy
The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture released the Weekly Crop Report this morning for the week of June 10th to 16th.
Growing conditions remain relatively good in the region following some very small showers this past week. Producers are hoping for good general rains to help further development and avoid seeing their crops begin to deteriorate. Those areas that did not receive rain this past week report that crops appear to be holding on for now, but the relentless wind is quickly drying out the topsoil and rain will be needed soon.

The DiscoverWeyburn Soo Line Cup, driven by Barber Motors, has come to a close and the Canadian Tire Panthers are this year's Champions!
It was quite the battle for the Panthers this year, having to beat out the Magic 103 Lightning, Hulbert's Cabinets Maple Leafs, Barber Motors Hurricanes and, ultimately, the Goudy Transport Oilers.

Ottawa shows no signs of limiting MAID after UN panel calls for reversal
Ottawa is giving no sign that it intends to amend existing legislation on medical assistance in dying — something a UN committee called for earlier this spring.
The federal minister responsible for disabilities spoke at a hearing of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities last week, about two months after the committee called on Canada to repeal the 2021 law that expanded eligibility for assisted dying to those whose deaths were not reasonably foreseeable.
