Last Adult Jam Session before summer at WPL this Saturday
There is just one more adult jam session taking place at the Weyburn Public Library before breaking for summer - this Saturday, June 21st at 2:30 p.m., anyone who loves to sing or play an instrument can join along in the Allie Griffin Auditorium.
Song lyrics and chords are posted on a screen for everyone to follow along, and the group is open to suggestions for songs to try out. Other than the piano on site, musicians are required to bring their musical instruments, even if it's just a shaker or maracas.
Sylvan Lake dams up Beavers bats at Tom Laing Park
The Weyburn Beavers couldn’t muster enough offence Thursday night at Tom Laing Park, dropping a 7–1 decision to the visiting Sylvan Lake Gulls in the first of back-to-back games between the two teams.
Despite the final score, Weyburn starter Joe Hart turned in a strong performance, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out four.
UPDATE: Environment Canada reporting multiple possible tornadoes in southeast storms
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is investigating at least eight likely tornadoes that touched down across southeastern Saskatchewan on Thursday. The tornadoes were associated with a line of thunderstorms that moved through the region during the afternoon and evening hours. No injuries or structural damage have been reported so far.
Excellent turnout for family-favourite event
The City of Weyburn held the fourth annual Public Works & Emergency Services Open House event on Wednesday, with an excellent turnout according to Kevin Linnen, the Superintendent of Public Works.
"It was unreal, actually, this year. We kind of all agreed after the fact that was probably our best attendance yet with these events that we have had. So it was really good to see."
Last call for 50/50 for Kids!
Today is the last call for this year's 50/50 for Kids presented by Don's Plumbing and Heating.The teams from AM1190, Magic 103, Country 106.7, DiscoverWeyburn, and The Family Place have teamed up for the annual raffle and have been around the community all month selling tickets. We'll be at Don's Plumbing and Heating from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the final push.
No tickets issued in truck, scooter collision
Last Tuesday the Weyburn Police Service responded to a collision at the intersection of Highway 39 and Third Street. The incident involved a truck and a mobility scooter.
Deputy Police Chief Shane St. John explains that the incident was an accident, and no tickets were issued.
“The mobility scooter was off the curb in the lane of traffic where it really shouldn't have been, and sort of at an inopportune time, a person was turning and clipped the gentleman. So just accidental, no fault of anybody. So nobody got any tickets or anything.”
Officials say one dead, three hurt in rockfall at Banff National Park hiking trail
Police and parks officials say one person was killed and three were injured in a rockfall at a remote hiking trail in Banff National Park.
They say the search continues to confirm no other hikers are missing following the early afternoon tragedy at Bow Glacier Falls, north of Lake Louise.
One person had been found dead and the extent of the injuries to the other three is unknown.
Two of the three injured were taken to a Calgary hospital by STARS air ambulance and the third went to hospital by ground ambulance.
WHS hosting Pet Appreciation Month BBQ this weekend
The Weyburn Humane Society is getting ready for a summer of fun with a variety of fundraising events and raffles taking place. The fun starts this weekend as on Saturday, June 21st, they will be heading to PetValu Weyburn celebrating Pet Appreciation Month. Beverly Paul, board member with the Weyburn Humane Society welcomes everyone out to enjoy.
Tornado Watch issued for the Weyburn area
Environment Canada issued a Tornado Watch for the Weyburn and McTaggart area just after 5 p.m. on Thursday:
A low-pressure system is moving into Southeast Saskatchewan which will trigger severe thunderstorms this afternoon. These severe thunderstorms will then move into Southwest Manitoba by the early evening. Conditions are favourable for these severe thunderstorms to produce tornadoes.
Large hail up to 6 cm, wind gusts to 110 km/h, and heavy rain are also likely. The tornado and severe thunderstorm threat should diminish by the later evening hours.
City inviting everyone to Party in the Park at River Park this Friday
The City of Weyburn will host the Party in the Park this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at River Park. It'll include a barbecue and a variety of fun activities for the whole family.
"We've got lawn games, we've got a fun new event this year, those bumper balls. So we're just really excited to have everyone come out and get to know our team and just get to explore the beautiful River Park along with us," invited Communications Coordinator Paige Tenbult.
