Small town feel: Weyburn Tourism comments on 'neighbourly' acknowledgement

Weyburn Tourism has taken a lot of strides to ensure our city is a great place for visitors and for those who make their residence here.

According to Executive Director Monica Osborn, the second-place ranking on the World Atlas blog of the '9 Most Neighbourly Towns in the Prairies' is something to celebrate.

Canada among few countries exempt from Trump's new tariffs, existing duties remain

Prime Minister Mark Carney will address reporters shortly after the White House declared both Canada and Mexico exempt from new reciprocal tariffs announced today by U.S. President Donald Trump.

A fact sheet from Trump's office says goods imported under the existing continental trade deal, known as CUSMA, will not face tariffs, while those outside the deal will see a 10 per cent tariff.

Canada was left off a lengthy list Trump unveiled this afternoon showing the tariff levels most other countries will face starting Thursday.

Weyburn Curling Club delivers memorable Provincial Curling Championship

This past weekend, the Weyburn Curling Club hosted the 2025 Provincial Seniors Men's and Women's Curling Championship. Chair Chris Mass says it was a successful event. 

“It exceeded my expectations, actually. Weyburn, give yourselves a pat on the back. We had lots of people come to watch. The stands were packed with people. Thank you very much for showing up.” 

The championship saw two athletes move on to the national championships, men's winner Bruce Korte with the Nutana Curling Club and women's winner Amber Holland with the Sutherland Curling Club.  

Theft from local vehicle prompts security reminder from WPS

The Weyburn Police Service is reminding the community to ensure vehicles are locked with no valuables left inside. This after a reported theft last week, where tools and other items were stolen from a truck parked in the driveway of a residence in the city. 

Deputy Police Chief Shane St. John explains these incidents can vary, with some people, even from outside the city, coming in to look for unlocked vehicles.  

Saskatchewan see modest increase in average retail prices

The latest data on average retail prices for groceries, released by Statistics Canada Wednesday morning, show something many already knew – prices have gone up over the past years, and for some items, significantly. The data also shows that here in Saskatchewan, however, the increases appear to be slowing down for many items.

Community spirit: UFA Foundation backs Weyburn Ag Society with significant donation

The UFA Agricultural Community Foundation this morning presented the Weyburn Agricultural Society with $25,000.

"The UFA Agricultural Community Foundation was established last year, and our real mandate is to support rural communities and support agricultural farmers and ranchers to ensure that there is support for just great communities," shared Foundation Board Chair Jennifer Wood.

Southeast College sees funding decrease in budget

Southeast College is looking at revising its initial plans for the upcoming fiscal year, after a reduction in funding from the provincial budget. The budget has a $6 million reduction in allocation for post-secondary education, which works out to a roughly 5 per cent drop for the college, according to interim CEO Jody Holzmiller.

Calving season going well in Saskatchewan as snow melts and producers prepare

With the weather warming and spring coming to the prairies, producers have been going through calving season with plenty of work for them. 

Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan Vice-President Chris Procyk says that, from what he's heard, it's been a decent season in the province.
