Crushed and facing a storm: How STARS defied the odds to save a life
Can you imagine the weight of 18 tonnes of truck and 20 tonnes of excavator?
To put this immense amount into perspective, the combined weight of the machinery is equivalent to about 22 cars. Picturing this number, however, was likely far from Sean Rickards' mind as he found himself crushed between the two pieces of equipment.
“I was broken within a millimetre of my life,” he said afterwards.

Well Being/ Mental Health calls: Police received 8 calls of this nature over the week. One occurrence Members transported an adult female in distress to the Weyburn General Hospital for further care. One of the occurrences members located a very intoxicated adult male in public; they were arrested and placed in cells until sober.
Carney campaigning in his Ottawa riding today, Poilievre in Winnipeg
Liberal Leader Mark Carney will be campaigning in Nepean today, the Ottawa riding where he is seeking election.
Carney, who has not yet served as an MP, is expected to meet with volunteers in the riding at 10 a.m.
Carney has faced questions about his decision to run in Nepean, which became vacant only after the Liberal party ousted MP Chandra Arya as its candidate three days before the election was called.

Midale under water advisory
A precautionary drinking water advisory is now in effect for the town of Midale. It was issued this morning by the Water Security Agency due to high turbidity entering the distribution system.
It is recommended that all water for drinking purposes be boiled, at a rolling boil, for at least one minute. This recommendation applies to water that would be used for other activities where it may be ingested, such as brushing teeth, ice cubes, or washing fruits and vegetables.
Trade mission to Europe could hold promise for southeast
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is off to Europe, leading a provincial trade mission to the United Kingdom and Germany. The mission, which runs from March 28 to April 3, includes a stop at Hannover Messe, the world’s leading industrial trade fair focused on innovation, technology, and advanced manufacturing. Premier Moe is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the London Stock Exchange to promote Saskatchewan’s most recent $1 billion USD bond issuance.
33 Central mural brings Fillmore together
A new mural is nearing completion at 33 Central School in Fillmore, the culmination of a community-wide project supported by a $10,000 grant from SaskArts. Set to be unveiled on May 2nd, the mural is meant to be more than just a piece of visual art—it’s a celebration of Indigenous culture, a legacy of learning, and a symbol of unity for students, staff, and the wider community.
Red Wings cheer with a chance to advance against North Stars
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings return home this weekend with a chance to advance to the SJHL playoff semifinals Saturday night against the Battlefords North Stars. After splitting the home series in Weyburn last weekend, the Red Wings soared to victory in North Battleford, taking both road games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Bowling shirts have arrived for Special Olympics Weyburn team!
Thanks to a Community Fund Grant from the Weyburn Credit Union in 2024, the Special Olympics Weyburn Bowling team now has their new bowling shirts.
Community Manager Jo-Ann Paxman said they ordered the shirts through a Weyburn company, Completely Branded.
"They were excellent help. So thank you Completely Branded for all your help and assistance and guidance," she shared. "We knew the logo, we knew the design, and the colour was a bit of a process. We've always had green and there was a bit of discussion on changing colours. We just ended up going with green again."
