Open for the season: Nickle Lake Regional Park construction update
The 2025 season is now open for camping at Nickle Lake Regional Park.
Park Manager Darren Wheeler said there were already plenty of people taking advantage of the beach in the heat this past weekend, and seasonal campers have already started moving into their campsites.
Construction is moving along on the facilities adjacent to the Grub Shack near the beach, with about six weeks remaining until the opening of the new washrooms.
Producers making good progress in southeast Saskatchewan
Seeding operations made significant progress over the past week in southeast Saskatchewan, before the rains started, with 43 per cent of the crop now in the ground as of May 12, according to the latest crop report from the provincial Ministry of Agriculture. That marks a 29-point jump from the previous week and places the region well ahead of its five-year average of 27 per cent for this time of year.
Across the province, 49 per cent of the crop has been seeded.
Weyburn Horticultural Society's annual plant sale draws a crowd of green thumbs
The Weyburn Horticultural Society held the Spring Plant Sale fundraiser today in the Community Room at the Weyburn Credit Union.
The event always offers a variety of ways to supplement a garden, with access to knowledgeable club members and other resources.
The WHS meets on the third Wednesday of every month in the Vimy Room of the Weyburn Legion, where they often welcome guest speakers. Club membership is $20 per year.
Garrett, Robert Henry
Robert Henry Garrett, late of Radville, SK passed away on May 13, 2025 at the age of 76 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Elizabeth Garrett; his in-laws, Joseph and Ellen Morrow; sisters, Anna McFarlane and Mary Garrett (in-infancy).

Razorbacks stumped at home by Saskatoon
The Completely Branded RentPro Weyburn Razorbacks were in tough Wednesday night at the Tom Zandee Sports Arena. The Razorbacks would drop their third game in a row, falling 18-4 to the Saskatoon SWAT.
The visiting SWAT dominated from the opening whistle, scoring six goals in the first period, eight in the second, and four more in the third. Weyburn responded with a single goal in the opening frame and three in the second, but couldn’t find the back of the net in the third period.

Director of Engineering outlines newly unveiled draft plans for downtown revitalization
The City of Weyburn held an open house last Friday, inviting the community to see the draft concept plans developed for the city’s downtown revitalization.
Renee Cugnet, Director of Engineering with the city, explains the project was initiated to rejuvenate the city’s core, enhancing its appeal to residents, businesses, and visitors.
“Its initiative is part of the broader strategy to take an opportunity to update our infrastructure, starting with our undergrounds, obviously, and just to stimulate that economic growth and bring in that community engagement.”
End of an era: Weyburn Iron Pigs not returning this season
The Weyburn Iron Pigs, a senior baseball team that plays as part of the QVBL, have announced their decision not to return for the upcoming season.
"We started the team back in 2013," said Mike Onstad, team manager. "Since then, the majority of our roster, including myself, has remained consistent for over a decade, with some additions and reductions along the way."
He noted that over the decade they played, many on the team saw big changes off the field.

The presentation began with a video encapsulating his message of the impact of his tragic experience on and following April 6th, 2018, and his journey to realizing the steps necessary for healing, a big part of which is to share his story and connect with others.
