Red Wings outshone by North Stars in trip opener

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings kicked off their last road trip season Tuesday night, heading to North Battleford for a pair of games against the North Stars. In the opening game of the trip, the two teams exchanged a number of quality chances, however, the bounces went the way of the home side as the North Stars skated to a 3-0 win.

“There was a lot of good things early on,” said Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes after the game. “Maybe we didn’t out chance them early, but the number of chances through forty was close.”

Red Wings shut out in Estevan

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings travelled down to Estevan to face the Bruins in the second half of a home and home Saturday night, looking to bounce back after a 4-0 loss to the Bruins Friday night. Kade Runke had other plans, though, as the Bruins forward scored four goal as Estevan skated to a 10-0 win over the Red Wings.  

Runke opened the scoring in the first period, scoring at the 3:44 mark. Eric Houk then made it 2-0 Estevan with a goal at the 18:20 mark of the frame.  

“Simon is going to be alright": Pollock injured in Red Wings game

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings fell 4-0 to the Estevan Bruins Friday night, but the talk of the game will be an incident that happened with 1:24 left on the clock.

With just moments left in the game, Weyburn forward Simon Pollock dropped the gloves with Estevan Bruins defenseman Alex Von Sprecken. During the fight, one punch from Von Sprecken caught Pollock, and he collapsed to the ice, seemingly unconscious. Referees instantly called for the trainer, and medical staff came on to the ice almost immediately.

Red Wings Klipped at home by Kindersley

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into the game Saturday night against the Kindersley Klippers with a ton of momentum, riding a two-game winning streak. They were looking to make it three in a row, but a slow shift in momentum throughout the game would be a key difference, as the Klippers went on to beat the Red Wings 4-2. 

“We lost our good habits there for a while, and just couldn’t get them back,” said Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes after the game.  

Red Wings hold Calcutta shootout

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings held their Calcutta Shootout Saturday night after the game against the Flin Flon Bombers.  

The event was enjoyed by the fans, and after a gruelling series of breakaways to determine tiebreakers, goaltender Jackson Fellner was the winner after he stonewalled the four shooters who had made it to the finals: Matthew Reidy, Ethan Clements, Nick Kovacs and Ty Mason. 

Bombers shutout Red Wings at Crescent Point Place

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings welcomed the Flin Flon Bombers to Crescent Point Place Saturday night, looking to end their eight-game losing streak. Weyburn would come out of the gate, putting a lot of pressure on the Bombers in the first few moments of the game. However, a span of one minute and 48 seconds changed the entire momentum of the game, and the Bombers would go on to a 6-0 victory. 

Red Wings put in dog house by Hounds

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came out firing on all cylinders Friday night as they entertained the Notre Dame Hounds at Crescent Point Place. They would build up to a 2-0 lead by the five-minute mark of the second period, but then Notre Dame came roaring back. The Hounds would score four goals in the second period, and four more in the third en route to an 8-3 win, handing the Red Wings their eighth loss in a row.
