Agribition goes to the dogs

The dogs are always popular at Canadian Western Agribition.

This year for the first time we saw an Open Cattle Dog Trial and today the International Stock Dog Championship Trials are underway in the Brandt Centre.

Jared Epp Chairs the Agribition Stock Dog committee and says today's sheep dog event features 45 dogs and lambs that have never been worked by a dog.

Rachel Notley tours Heartland's IPL facility

Alberta's NDP leader, Rachel Notley was in the area a few weeks ago. 

The former premier was checking in on progress made at the Inter Pipeline's Heartland Petrochemical Complex (IPL) here in Fort Saskatchewan. 

"It was our government that put the program in place and was part of bringing IPL to Alberta's heartland," Notley told FortSaskOnline.com. "It serves as a strong flagship to the ongoing value add. upgrading and diversification work that we think is so important to Alberta's economy and certainly to the economy of the heartland."

Canadian National Texas Longhorns show at Agribition

The Canadian National Texas Longhorn Show kicked off the first purebred beef events at Agribition earlier this week.

Pete Hildebrand, President of the Canadian Texas Longhorn Association says there are Longhorn breeders now from British Columbia right through to Ontario.

This year's National show featured eight exhibitors from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta with 46 cattle entered.

The Grand Champion Heifer was exhibited by Kari Regenski of Patricia, Alberta.

Update: One injured in Highway 16 crash

One man was seriously injured in a collision on Highway 16 on Wednesday (Nov. 30) afternoon. 

Strathcona County RCMP says that they were called to a two-vehicle crash just east of Range Road 215 at about 2:55 p.m. 

An investigation found that a truck travelling eastbound collided with the back of a snowplow. 

The man driving the truck was sent to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

The man driving the snowplow was able to leave the scene without any injuries. 

An investigation into the cause of the collision is on-going. 

Update: One dead in multi-vehicle collision on Highway 14

One man was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 14 on Wednesday (Nov. 30) afternoon. 

Strathcona County RCMP says they were called to a serious multi-vehicle collision just east of Range Road 205 at about 3:02 p.m. 

Upon arriving, police say they discovered that a Dodge Ram travelling westbound collided head-on with a semi-truck travelling eastbound. 

The 26-year-old man driving the Dodge Ram was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, a 59-year-old man from Spruce Grove, was killed. 

Fort Sask resident shares their earthquake experience

Even though Tuesday (Nov. 29) night's earthquakes happened more than 100 kilometres away from Fort Saskatchewan, plenty of people still felt its effects. 

The focal point of the tremors came 26 kilometres away from Peace River in the northern part of the province. Shockwaves travelled as far away as Edmonton. 

Rigel Carias, a local resident, was sewing when she noticed shaking in her house. 

Sherwood Park house fire cause revealed

Strathcona County Emergency Services have provided an update on last Friday's (Nov. 25) house fire in Sherwood Park. 

Firefighters were called to a single-family home in the Meadowview area at around 3:30 that afternoon. They responded with two firetrucks, a tower truck, an on-duty platoon chief, and support personnel.
