Local musician featured in Netflix's Love Is Blind

An Edmonton musician got quite the shock when he realized a few songs he made years ago were featured on the popular Netflix series Love Is Blind.

Josh Sahunta is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who has been making music in his Edmonton studio for years. Some locals may even recognize him for the shows he's played in Fort Saskatchewan.

In the past few months, Sahunta had several of his friends asking him if he had a song in the Netflix series Love Is Blind.

"I told all of them it wasn't [me]," Sahunta said.

Fort Sask Legion raises thousands for local dart player

The Fort Saskatchewan Legion raised thousands of dollars for a local dart player. 

Jaxson Danis, 13, is less than a week away from hopping on a plane to the Netherlands to take part in the World Dart Masters. To help pay for the expenses of such a big trip, the legion put on a massive fundraiser last Saturday (Nov. 26) night. 

Around 80 people took part in the event, enjoying a home-cooked meal, darts tournament, and a toonie toss to win a 60lb bottle of Crown Royale. 

Danis' mom, Sherilyn, helped to organize the event and said it was a massive success. 

National Police Federation: Proposed provincial police lacks reason and support

Top quality genetics on display for Agribition all-breed competition

There was some tough competition in the show ring yesterday for Agribition's First Lady Classic a yearling bred heifer all breed  competition.

Justin Van de Woestyne from Benson, Sk was part of the judging panel and says he feels the show was one of the toughest and most competitive bred heifer shows in Western Canada if not the country.

"I think we all know the amount of work time effort the years of planning that goes into these genetics and what a what an absolute accomplishment it is not only to be here at the show but to be here in this ring."

CN featured during Canadian Western Agribition's Food, Fuel and Free Trade breakfast

Canadian Western Agribition's Food, Fuel and Free Trade breakfast was held on Tuesday. 

CN's President and CEO Tracy Robinson gave the keynote address.

During the event, she also announced a $100,000 donation to STARS Air Ambulance.

David Przednowek, CN's Assistant Vice-President of Grain says terminal productivity issues really slowed down grain shipments for about three weeks but things started turning around last week.

Strong prices reported for Agribition Bison Sale

The Canadian Bison Association's Convention wrapped up with the National Sale at Agribition.

The video sale brought top dollars for some top quality animals. 

The Grand Champion Male from Last Chance Bison Ranch sold for $3200, while the Reserve Champion Male from Roaming K Bison Ranch at Foam Lake sold for $5500.

The top selling bull came from the Shale Creek Bison Ranch at Russell, Manitoba and sold for $8000

Earthquake felt in Fort Saskatchewan

A series of earthquakes in northern Alberta was strong enough that many felt it right here in Fort Saskatchewan.

Some residents may have felt their house shaking shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 29).

In a Facebook post asking about the shaking, residents from Gibbons, Sherwood Park, and even Wetaskiwin responded saying they felt it as well. 

This shake was caused by a series of earthquakes 26 kilometres away from Peace River.

Looking back on the Harbour Pool's 40-year history

It's been a long journey for the Harbour Pool in Fort Saskatchewan. 

In less than a month the pool will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. 

Opening on December 17, 1982, the facility was built over a 10-month period and cost about $3.3 million dollars to construct. Upon opening, they featured a functional leisure pool. 

Naomi Switzer, acting supervisor of aquatics operations at the Harbour Pool, says that there were some much loftier expectations for the pool when it was initially built. 

Morinville restaurant employees saved two men from Plaza hotel fire

Employees from a Morinville restaurant saved two men from a fire earlier this month.

According to a Facebook post from Morinville Asian Garden, a restaurant in the town, two of their employees used a ladder to help people on the second floor of the Morinville Plaza Hotel and Suites.

"We were lucky to save two dudes from the second floor that got trapped by the smoke," read the Facebook post.
