Victim identified in fatal Highway 28 collision
RCMP has confirmed that a man died in a crash just outside of Redwater on Monday (Nov. 7) morning.
Police were called to Highway 28 just after 1 a.m. after an SUV and truck collided head-on.
The driver of the SUV, a 45-year-old man from Vermillion, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two people in the truck were taken to hospital and treated for unknown injuries.
The name of the deceased will not be released.
An investigation into the nature of the collision is ongoing.
Fort Sask teen headed to World Dart Masters
A Fort Saskatchewan teenager is crossing the pond to take part in the World Dart Masters in the Netherlands next month.
13-year-old Jaxson Danis has been playing darts since he was just eight years old at the local legion.
"My parents started playing legion darts and I started going to their tournaments," said Danis. "From the get-go, I started to love it."
He started to get more involved in playing darts and, before he knew it, Danis discovered that he had a knack for hitting difficult shots.
New Swine Course Being Launched in December
A new Swine Production Foundations program is being launched at Assiniboine Community College.
The online and self-directed program provides learners with a broad coverage of the industry from stockmanship, to pig health care, breeding, farrowing, nursery, and grow and finish.
The course will also provide an understanding of swine operations, including regulations, health and safety, record keeping, and barn systems and maintenance.
Voters go to polls in byelection with Alberta Premier Smith seeking legislature seat
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is expected to find out today if she has a seat in the legislature.
Smith is one of five candidates running in a byelection in the southern constituency of Brooks-Medicine Hat.
The other candidates are Gwendoline Dirk of the NDP, Barry Morishita of the Alberta Party, Bob Blayone of the Independence Party and Jeevan Mangat of the Wildrose Independence Party.
The seat became open a month ago when Michaela Frey, the United Conservative Party legislature member, resigned.
CN ready to roll into the winter

Stats show 2022 marks the third largest crop in Western Canada, with crop yields estimated at 75 million metric tonnes.
When it comes to grain movement CN moved a record amount of grain in October.

Strathcona County collisions nearly double from last year
It's been almost a week since the sudden snow landed in the region.
How many accidents happened during the first week of snow, and how does it compare to other years?
According to Strathcona County RCMP, they had approximately 80 traffic collisions reported since Halloween.
This is almost double the 42 collisions during the same time last year.
In Fort Saskatchewan alone there were 16 reported collisions.
This does not mean that RCMP responded to all of the collisions, as many were reported at the RCMP's front counter.
Update: One dead in collision outside Redwater
One person is dead after a two-vehicle collision just outside of Redwater.
The crash happened on Monday (Nov. 7) morning just after 1 a.m.
Redwater RCMP responded to a head-on collision between a truck and an SUV on Highway 28.
The driver of the SUV, a 45-year-old man from Vermillion, Alberta, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the truck were taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
The Redwater Fire Department diverted traffic while RCMP investigated the crash. Highway 28 was reopened around 11 a.m.
Morinville Legion rallies around plaza fire victims
The Morinville Legion is doing their best to help those who were displaced by Sunday (Nov. 6) night's fire at the Plaza Inn and Suites.
Around 27 people who were residents at the building lost just about everything due to the fire, many of which had to flee into the cold weather in just their pyjamas.
Mike Adams, the first vice-president of the Morinville Legion, was watching the scene unfold and approached Morinville Mayor Simon Boersma to get people into the legion for support.
When can you see tomorrow's 'Blood Moon'?
In the early hours of Tuesday (Nov. 8) morning, a total lunar eclipse will take place in the skies above Fort Saskatchewan.
The Moon will pass through the earth's shadow giving it a red colour, commonly referred to as a 'Blood Moon'.
This will be the last total lunar eclipse for over two years, with the next eclipse expected to occur on March 14, 2025.
Residents of Alberta will be able to see the entire eclipse -- as long as the weather permits.

Bibeau co-chairs international event focusing on sustainable agriculture and food solutions
Federal Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau co-chaired the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris last week.
Agriculture ministers and representatives from about 50 countries agreed to redouble their efforts and implement better practices to feed the growing world population, fight climate change, and ensure that farmers and workers can make a successful living from agricultural production.
