BGC Fort Saskatchewan and BGC Strathcona County sign new management agreement

Some changes are being made at the local BGC clubs. 

On July 1, BGC Fort Saskatchewan and BGC Strathcona County signed a new management agreement that would see the Strathcona County club assume responsibility for club operations in Fort Saskatchewan. 

The recent agreement is essentially an extension of one signed between the two clubs back in December 2021, according to BGC Fort Saskatchewan board chair Karen Sliwkanich.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP investigating phoney police vehicle

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a report that an illegitimate police vehicle was attempting to pull someone over.

Around 11:00 a.m. on Friday (Aug. 5), a driver reported to RCMP that he was being followed by what appeared to be a police vehicle while on Highway 15 and 28A in Sturgeon County. 

The car was reported as a blue Crown Victoria with a substandard paint job, a light bar affixed to the top and alternating lights on the front grill.

Man charged after police find 19 stolen vehicles in warehouse, shipping containers

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) have recovered a large number of stolen vehicles.

On May 12, while investigating the theft of a 2022 Ford Expedition, the EPS Targeted Response to Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP) team went to a warehouse in St. Albert, the last known GPS location of the stolen vehicle.

Upon arrival, EPS say the team saw several newer vehicles within a fenced compound and several shipping containers with vehicles inside them.

Who is the new executive director of the Fort Sask library?

The Fort Saskatchewan Public Library has welcomed a new executive director.

Tricia Wall, originally from the Cypress Hills area of Elkwater, Alberta, began her role at the library on May 10. 

She looks after the library for the Fort Saskatchewan Library Board, creates and monitors a budget and supervises and hires staff.

“I had a job that I absolutely loved, and this job became available. The only reason I left is because it was this job,” said Wall.

Fort Saskatchewan Hospital to temporarily close labour and delivery unit

The Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital will temporarily close their labour and delivery unit. 

Starting tomorrow (Aug 6), the hospital will consolidate obstetrical services at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert.

According to Alberta Health Services (AHS), the decision to temporarily close the unit in Fort Saskatchewan is due to the lack of obstetrical coverage. 

Local football player wins silver at national championship

Parker Kellington and the prestigious U18 Team Alberta went home with silver medals at the Football Canada Cup Tournament.

Kellington was born and raised in Fort Saskatchewan. His love for football started at young age when he started playing for the Fort Sask Falcons Football program. During this time he won a Tier 3 division championship and was named to the all-Edmonton team Metro All-stars.

The Farmers' Almanac predicts 'an unreasonably cold winter'

The Farmers’ Almanac released its 2022-23 Winter Outlook on Wednesday (August 3).

According to the publication, Alberta is in for a cold and snowy season.

“We are actually overall saying it's going to be a hibernation zone with glacially cold temperatures and it’s going to be very snowy,” explained  Sandi Duncan, the managing editor of the Farmers' Almanac.
