Severe thunderstorm watch in place for area; tornado watch for central Alberta
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area.
The weather agency says the thunderstorm may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, Edmonton and other neighbouring communities are included in the watch.

Much of central Alberta is under a tornado watch.
"Damaging winds, very large hail and heavy rain are also possible," said Environment Canada.
Town of Gibbons donates funds from golf tournament to three community organizations
The Town of Gibbons has donated thousands of dollars to three community organizations.
On June 24, 58 golfers came out to the Town of Gibbons first annual golf tournament at Goose Hummock.
The $200 tournament entry fee allowed the town to donate to Sturgeon Victims Services, Bon Accord Gibbons Food Bank and the Gibbons Family Resource Centre.
Fire bans, restrictions, and advisories for the long weekend

There are no active fire bans or advisories for Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding areas. This includes Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, Lamont County, Lamont, Bruderheim, Gibbons, Bon Accord, Redwater and Morinville.
Distracted driving initiative sees drivers opting for education over fines
A city-wide blitz to combat distracted driving saw dozens of tickets issued.
From mid-June until Monday (July 25), Fort Saskatchewan RCMP and the City of Fort Saskatchewan’s Municipal Enforcement Services conducted an initiative focused on distracted driving called “Option IV”.
During the initiative, drivers caught distracted driving were given a fourth option, an education session, that turned their tickets into warnings, meaning they were no longer required to pay the fine and no demerit points were deducted.

Paddleboarder who drowned in Elk Island National Park identified
The man who went missing while paddleboarding on Astotin Lake in Elk Island National Park has been identified.
A GoFundMe page says the man is 42-year-old Sachin Kadam.
Kadam went missing after losing site of his paddleboarding partner on the lake on Saturday (June 23). His body was recovered on Monday.
“He was a good swimmer but he went very deep into the lake and couldn't get out,” the page reads.
Residential fire from earlier this week still under investigation
The official cause of a residential fire from earlier this week has yet to be determined.
On Monday (July 25) at 1:31 a.m., the Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department (FSFD) and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a call from a resident claiming they smelt smoke in their house.
