RCMP concerned about arrows being shot in Fort Saskatchewan

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP have received multiple complaints about arrows being shot around the city.

Between June 23 and July 18, arrows have been reported at James Mowat Park, Our Lady of Angels school park, a business on 99 Avenue, and two private residences.

The businesses and the homeowners had the arrows lodged into the siding of their properties. 

"RCMP wish to remind the public of the dangers of shooting arrows in public places, as well as the criminal aspects associated," police said in a release.

Residents of Fort Saskatchewan are encouraged to cool off at city facilities to escape the hot weather. On Wednesday (July 28), Environment Canada issued a heat warning due to high temperatures predicted for the coming days. With the humidity, Thursday's 31 C high will feel closer to 37 C.

Doctors say lack of communication on epidural shortage 'frustrating'

A shortage of epidural tubes used to provide pain medication primarily during labour and delivery is affecting most provinces, but supply issues seem to be worse in Western Canada, says the vice-president of the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society.

Dr. Lucie Filteau said "murmurings" of a shortage of the tubes, or catheters, began recently on a private online page of about 300 anesthesiologists across the country.

Resident asks for more security after arrow pierces her property

Rogue arrows have been found around Fort Saskatchewan in recent weeks. 

A neighbour alerted Lauren Kane on Monday (July 25), that they had seen an arrow sticking out of a shelter in her driveway. 

“He said he noticed it on Saturday and he told me on Monday,” said Kane.

Kane lives near James Mowat Elementary and admitted to feeling unsafe.

Heat warning issued for area

The region is currently under a heat warning. 

Environment Canada issued the warning early Wednesday morning (July 27) as daytime temperatures are expected to reach highs ranging from 29 C to the mid 30’s Thursday. 

The heat warning is in effect for Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, St. Albert, and the western portion of Sturgeon County, including Morinville, Legal, Rivière Qui Barre and Villeneuve.

Beef industry could benefit from "RALP"

The agreement includes $500 million dollars in new funding, $250 million dollars of which, has been earmarked for a Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP).
