Conservative party disqualifies candidate Patrick Brown from leadership race

The campaign for Patrick Brown said it was consulting its legal team after the leadership election organizing committee of the federal Conservatives voted to disqualify him from the race late Tuesday.

Ian Brodie, the chair of the committee, announced the stunning move in a written statement after a meeting to discuss the matter.

He said the party had recently become aware of "serious allegations of wrongdoing" by the Brown campaign.

The allegations are related to the financing rules in the Canada Elections Act, Brodie said, but provided no further details.

Canola industry welcomes release of unofficial final Clean Fuel Regulations

The Canola Council of Canada (CCC) is pleased to see the release of the unofficial final Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) and its recognition of canola’s potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as a low carbon feedstock for biofuels.

The CFR provides options that would allow Canadian grown crops to be fully accepted as sustainable and compliant with land use and biodiversity criteria. It also recognizes regenerative farm practices such as no-till and minimal till, contributing to canola’s low carbon intensity and feedstock of choice in biofuel production.

School's out and I have two questions...

Another school year has wrapped up and parents, how excited are we!?

For the next two months no more waking up kids, no chauffeuring, no more helping with homework, and the thing that makes me the happiest of all, no more making school lunches!

Two questions:

  • What are you most excited about doing now that it's officially summer vacation?
  • What are you planning to do to keep those kids from uttering those two little words: "I'm bored."

Lions' Pool opens for the summer

The Fort Saskatchewan Lions' Pool is open for the summer.

Unfortunately, due to the rain, the pool was closed for its opening day (June 5).

The Lions' Pool is maintained and operated by the local volunteer club, which also pays the wages of the pool’s attendants.

"There's a lot of people in the downtown area that can't make it out to the spray park," said Don Westman, treasurer of the Lions in a previous interview with MIX 107.

"It really fills an excellent need in that part of town, and we're quite proud of that."
