A family fleeing the attacks in Ukraine is now calling the area home. 

Tetiana Targonia was supposed to have the windows of her new home near Kyiv installed the day Russia launched a full-scale invasion.

"We spent one more night at home, and after that, I understand that it's impossible. It's really dangerous to stay there." 

Council approves $417,600 hybrid-model study into Fort Sask pools

Fort Saskatchewan city council recently approved a study looking into the future of the city’s aquatic infrastructure.  

The discussion around the state of Fort Saskatchewan's aquatic infrastructure has been happening for many years. In 2008, the city added a pool to its Recreation and Culture master plan, and several studies have since been conducted. 

Artists chosen for Fort Saskatchewan's Art in Public Places Program

Two residents from Fort Saskatchewan will soon have their artwork displayed for the public's enjoyment.

The city recently selected two artists as part of the 2022 Art in Public Places Program. Each year, the city allocates funds to purchase up to two pieces of art to put on public display—one from an adult visual artist and another from a student artist.

Beach volleyball opens for registration

Whether you're a former volleyball team captain or someone who just enjoys the sport, it's worth registering for the Fort Sask Beach Volleyball Association's league.

Being involved in volleyball from a young age, Fort Saskatchewan's Ryan Gabert was tired of driving into Edmonton to play volleyball. He soon decided to form a league of his own based out of Fort.

Using the RCMP Park's outdoor rink as a venue, the Fort Sask volleyball league features games of six on six, four on four, and a two on two spike ball league, a game created less than a decade ago.

Prince Charles and Camilla kick off three-day Canadian tour in St. John's today

Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, are in Newfoundland and Labrador's capital today to begin a three-day Canadian tour focused on Indigenous reconciliation and climate change. 

The royal couple will visit the provincial legislature where they will be welcomed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau before heading to Government House, which is the official residence of Lt.-Gov. Judy Foote, the Queen's representative in the province.

Milgaard pushed for action on Indigenous sisters' wrongful conviction claims

David Milgaard was actively helping people who claim they have been wrongfully convicted right up until his sudden death, including two Indigenous sisters who have been incarcerated for nearly 30 years.

The victim of one of Canada's most notorious miscarriages of justice, he spent 23 years in prison for a 1969 rape and murder he didn't commit.

Milgaard died over the weekend after a short illness at the age of 69.

Alberta premier dismisses need for big number in leadership review

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says he doesn’t need overwhelming support in a leadership review because the pool of voters has been diluted by thousands of angry members bent on destruction.

“This is a totally different dynamic,” Kenney said from Washington, D.C., where he was to appear Tuesday before a Senate committee to discuss the North American energy situation.

“People who are saying (I have) to get, say, 90 per cent or something (similar) really aren’t appreciating the different context of this.”

You can now renew your Alberta licence and ID cards online

You can now renew your driver's licences and ID cards online in Alberta. 

On Monday (May 17), it was announced that renewing these documents through the MyAlberta eServices portal is now an option. 

“Alberta’s government is well on the way to cutting red tape by one-third, saving Albertans and Alberta businesses time and money,” said Tanya Fir, Associate Minister of Red Tape Reduction.

There are a few limitations on exactly who will be able to use this online service. 

AHS program hopes to bring some relief to people living with chronic pain

Alberta Health Services is running a free chronic pain self-management program called Better Choices, Better Help (BCBH) throughout the summer. 

Albertans 18+ living with chronic pain and their support person can self refer themselves to attend. It is not necessary to go through a healthcare provider. 

The sessions will run once a week for two and a half hours, so there is lots of time to learn about pain management and chat with others with similar chronic issues. 

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP arrest man for sexual assault involving a minor

A 54-year-old Parkland County man faces several child luring and sexual assault charges, and police believe there could be additional victims. 

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Unit says Stephen Cote began communicating with a 14-year-old victim via social media in early 2022. 

Cote has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and child luring.
