Jason Kenney resigns as UCP leader

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has resigned as the United Conservative Party (UCP) leader.

The UCP announced the results of a leadership review on a livestream from an invite-only event near Calgary Wednesday (May 18) evening. Ballots were cast via mail by UCP members.

Earlier, Kenney said he wasn't concerned with the vote, adding even if he received a slim majority of 50 plus one, he would stay on as leader.

"I've never lost an election, and I don't plan on doing so now."

After the ballots were counted, Kenney received a 51.4 per cent approval rating.

What was life like during the last playoff Battle of Alberta?

A lot has changed since the last Battle of Alberta playoff game in 1991 (Oilers won the series 4-3). Heck, I wasn't even born yet!

Let’s dive into some of the historic moments from 1991 and compare them to what life is like in the present day.

Top baby names:

  • 1991 - Ashley and Micheal

City council discusses possibility of urban hens

There's been lots of talk lately about allowing urban hens in Fort Saskatchewan.

Corey Sieben and Tami Petroski approached city council on Tuesday (May 17) to make their case about the benefits of having urban hens in the community.

The duo started with a series of slides that went over the advantages of pasture chickens over farm chickens, such as providing around 300 per cent more Vitamin E on top of other nutritional benefits.

The big Battle of Alberta bet is here!

As if the huge matchup between the Oilers and Flames wasn't big enough, now we've got extra skin in the game!

I called up Shayne Hill from our sister station Eagle 100.9 in Okotoks, hoping she would agree to a (not too) friendly wager.

The loser will find themselves at a major intersection in enemy clothing, professing their love for the opposing team.

On top of all the humiliation on the line, there will be game-by-game bets throughout the series too!
