Sports Round-Up: Tuesday, October 29

The Moose Jaw Warriors are in Prince George tonight to face the Cougars. Puck drop is at 8 p.m., and you can catch all the action on Country 100 starting with the pregame show at 7:40. 

Tomorrow the Winmar AAA Warriors will be back on home ice - puck drop against the Notre Dame Hounds is 7 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. 

Senior Boys volleyball, Avonlea won the Moose Jaw Junior Varsity City Championship.

Golf Manitoba's Annual General Meeting and Awards Reception will be held tonight at the St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg. The finalists for the 2024 Female Amateur Golfer of the Year award are Charmaine Hayden, Addison Kartusch, Jeri Lafleche and Rhonda Orr. The Male finalists are Zostrianos Giordani-Gross, Braxton Kuntz, Allan McDonald and Marco Trstenjak.

HTA Knights get back in the win column

The HTA Knights got back in the win column this weekend with a 51-3 victory over the Spartans in Strathmore.

This was the first road game for the senior Knights football team since September 4th against Notre Dame, where they picked up a 46-0 win.

Both the offence and defence helped pick up the win. The offence scored 35 points in the first half and the defence picked up some sacks and hemmed the Spartans in their own need of the field forcing a safety.

Foothills Falcons couldn't get past Lethbridge

The Foothills Flacons hit the gridiron for their final regular season game on Friday (Oct. 25) and came out on the losing end of a 43-17 football game in Lethbridge.

Some standouts for the Falcons were Asher Nelson with an interception, Chase Brockhoff with a touchdown, Jacob Van Horne with a field goal, and QB Emerson Liepert with one rushing and one passing touchdown.

The game was hosted at the University of Lethbridge's field. The Falcons finished the regular season with a 4-4 record.

Legionnaires team up with SWFF to Pack the Plex

Swift Current and area residents and families are invited to Pack the Plex for a Legionnaires game to support the Southwest Facility Foundation.

Pack the Plex is set for Friday, November 1 where the Legionnaires will take on the Saskatoon Blazers and admission is only $10 per person, for both children and adults. Puck drop will be at 8 p.m.

Travis Cuthbert, vice president for the Southwest Facility Foundation, noted that they'll also be running a new Buy a Classroom program that will give students the chance to watch some hockey as well as support the facility.

Swift Current judo athletes bring home trio of medals

Several Swift Current Judo Club athletes made the trip to Winnipeg over the weekend to compete in a tournament that counts towards their national standings.

The Manitoba Open Tournament took place on Saturday and Sunday and was attended by Swift Current's Eliot Perrault, Talon Moen, Karlee Rempel, Kadence Rempel, and Blake Rempel. 

Blake secured gold in the U16 male advanced under 42 kilograms division, Kadence took bronze in the U12 female group two, and Karlee captured gold in the U10 mixed group two.

Jets win streak ends with loss to the Leafs

The Winnipeg Jets season-opening win streak came to an end Monday night at Canada Life Centre.

John Tavares scored three times in the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-4 victory over Winnipeg.

William Nylander, Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly also scored for the Leafs who jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Kyle Connor sparked the Jets comeback with back-to-back second period power play goals.

Tavares' second of night with 2:07 left in the middle frame extended Toronto's lead to 5-3.
