SE Connections build routines, friendships ahead of Saskatchewan Winter Games

An exciting opportunity lies ahead for several southeast artistic swimmers as they prepare for the upcoming Saskatchewan Winter Games.

The team representing the region will be the Southeast Connections, made up of seven athletes: Seirra Mantei, Rowyn Shier, Ava Donnison, Mahaley Fonstad, Isabelle Pyra, Kayden Pukas, and Brinley Groenveld. Pukas and Groenveld will compete as a duet, Donnison and Pyra form another duet, while Mantei and Shier will perform as soloists.

Portage Disc Golf Club celebrates 11th Open Tournament

The Portage Disc Golf Club hosted its 11th annual Portage Open at Island Park, welcoming 60 competitors to a course in top condition and under ideal weather. The event continues to be a highlight on the Manitoba Disc Golf Tour, drawing players from across the province.

“Yeah, we're really excited. We had 60 disc golfers sign up for our event, and the weather was perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better day,” said Portage Disc Golf Club Chairman Cody Buhler. “It wasn't too hot. It was nice and cool. Just a very slight breeze.”

U15 Central Energy shines with silver medal at Canadian Softball Championships

“Why not us?” That’s the question Central Manitoba’s U15 Central Energy Girls Softball team asked themselves, and then answered, in spectacular fashion.

From underdogs to national heroes, this squad captured hearts and headlines at the 2025 Canadian Softball Championships, which took place from August 13th to 17th in the Morden/Winkler area.

The team includes players from across different communities located in the Central Plains region.

Red Deer Rustlers goaltender competes for Youth Athlete of the Year

The Blackfalds Community Group on Facebook is promoting a local Blackfalds athlete for national recognition as Youth Athlete of the Year.

Draeton, a goaltender with the Red Deer Rustlers Hockey Club, is currently sitting in third place in the online contest, which ends Thursday (August 21) at 7:00 p.m. PDT.

If named Youth Athlete of the Year Draeton will be featured in a 3BRAND advertisement in Sports Illustrated and receive a $25,000 prize.

Draeton is one of 10 athletes nominated, and votes are being cast daily for free or additional votes by donation.

Second half of 2025 Canada Summer Games begins on Tuesday

 

Following a day off on Monday, the second half of the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland will get started on Tuesday. 

It will be a busy start for the Women’s Baseball team with two games on Tuesday. 

They open the tournament with a matchup against Manitoba.  

That will be followed by a quick turnaround against Prince Edward Island in the afternoon. 

Marysburg Royals stay alive in SSBL playoff race with 3-2 win over the Hoppers

The Marysburg Royals live to see another day in the 2025 Saskatoon Senior Baseball League (SSBL) Playoffs.  

Marysburg avoided elimination with a 3-2 win over the Saskatoon Hoppers on Monday night. 

Thomas Lessmeister got the win on the mound, he pitched 4 innings, allowing one run on nine hits and had four strikeouts. 

Nick Anderson finished off the game, tossing 3 innings, allowing one run on two hits.

It's week two of the Canada Summer Games and Team Sask is back in action this morning! Men's softball opens at 11 against New Brunswick, with a match-up against Manitoba to follow this afternoon.

Women's baseball gets underway this morning; they face Team Manitoba.

And the Sask men's volleyball team will defend their 2022 Canada Summer Games gold medal when they take on host Newfoundland at 10:30.

Team Sask opens week two with 1 gold and three bronze medals.

Delisle athletes highlight Week 2 at Canada Summer Games

2500 athletes traded spots during turnaround day on Monday at the Canada Summer Games in St. Johns Newfoundland.

After a training day, the second week of events starts today with a brand-new batch of athletes. Locally, week two will feature athletes in athletics, men's softball, men's volleyball, and wrestling. Other sports include male box lacrosse, mountain bike, diving, golf, and female soccer, those disciplines joining artistic swimming and female baseball making their summer games debut.
