Lacombe Edge Ringette hosts free introduction to the sport

Lacombe Edge Ringette is inviting the community to lace up and hit the ice during its “Come Try Ringette” event, set for Saturday (August 16) from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Gary Moe Sportsplex.

The free session offers an introduction to the fast-paced, exciting sport of ringette.

Whether you’re new to the game or simply curious to learn more, it’s a perfect opportunity to get on the ice, have fun, and meet local players and coaches.

In addition to the public event, “Dust Off the Rust” camps are scheduled for August 17 and 24, also at the Gary Moe Sportsplex.

Team Saskatchewan finishes 6th in Rugby Sevens

A 6th place finish for Kyle's AJ De Necker and Team Saskatchewan in Rugby Sevens at the Canada Summer Games in Newfoundland.

Saskatchewan lost 35-12 in the 5th place game to Nova Scotia last night.

They finished the tournament with two wins in seven matches.

Four local swimmers will be back in the pool today for the men's and women's Special Olympics 50 meter freestyle.

Gull Lake's Chayce Foster, Swift Current's Tate Zimmerman, Avery Underhill, and Rahimay Priebe will finish their Summer Games with their final races today.

Bruins kids camp inspires the next generation

The hum of skates on ice and the laughter of young hockey players have filled Affinity Place this week as the Estevan Bruins’ 2025 Hockey School kicks off. From the smallest U7s to the competitive U13s, the camp is giving young athletes a taste of elite-level coaching, directly from the Bruins themselves.

For Nicole Lajambe, the camp has been more than just a hockey school, it’s a chance for her son to grow both on and off the ice.

Team Saskatchewan still sits with two medals - one gold and one bronze - after Wednesday's competition wrapped up in Newfoundland.

The men's baseball team advanced to the semi-finals with an 8-7 win over Quebec in an extra-inning yesterday.

The men's and women's basketball teams along with our tennis team are in the medal rounds with competition moving into quarter-final action today.

Cochrane lacrosse players battling at national championships

Several Cochrane lacrosse players will be competing on national stages on four different teams, each chasing a championship in their respective divisions.

Wyatt Viste and the Calgary Raiders captured the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL) Junior A title and will represent Alberta at the Minto Cup, Aug. 16–24 in St. Catharines, Ont.

Sultans Powers proud of nationals run, named offensive player of tournament

It was a magical run for the U22 Carillon Sultans, as the group fought and battled their way to a bronze medal at nationals, and in the process, Ryan Powers was named the offensive player of the tournament.

"I'm just so proud of the guys," Powers said after taking a few days to reflect on what the team accomplished in Nova Scotia. "We just battled all year long, all tournament long. We played good ball all year."

U15 AAA Central Energy off to terrific 2-0 start after day one of nationals

Hosting nationals has proven not to be a distraction, as the U15 AAA Central Energy won both their games on Wednesday, a resounding 12-0 victory over BC3, and a hard, tough battle against a scrappy PEI team, claiming the win 2-1.

"The day was really, really great for our team, and our organization," coach Kevin Convery says with a smile. "The kids did well in both games, getting two victories, including that tight win over a solid PEI team, under the lights and in front of a lot of local fans."
