Highwood JV Girls and SV Boys push volleyball games to four sets

The Highwood Mustangs had two Volleyball games over the week with the JV Girls playing on Monday (Oct. 21) and the SV Boys on Tuesday (Oct. 22).

The Mustangs JV Girls played against the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS). Highwood would take the first set 25-22 even after STS made a close set, scoring eight points near the end of the set.

Western Prairie Jr Klipper Report- Gracie Georget

Kindersley native Gracie Georgete laced up her first skates at age three and started playing hockey at five, a love for the sport that has only grown over the years. Now, she’s making waves in the Saskatchewan Women’s Junior Hockey League (SJWHL) with the Western Prairie Junior Klippers, a team she joined in its inaugural season last year.

Georgete shared her thoughts on the team’s early progress and her excitement about the season. “We’ve had a strong start so far,” Gracie said. “It’s been great to see, and I think we’ll only get better as we keep going.”

Elecs boys volleyball team prepare for Regina tournament after rivalry win

They've done it again. 

The ECS Elecs Senior Boys Volleyball team dominated the WCS Eagles on Tuesday night, walking away as the winner of this year's Co-op Challenge alongside the senior girls team. Just like in game 1, the boys were able to sweep their rival with 33-31, 25-19, and 27-25 results respectively. Head coach Bryton Such was happy with the team's performance on the court.

Bulldogs acquire goalie from Grizzlies

The Blackfalds Bulldogs have acquired 2006-born goaltender Dylan Adams from the Victoria Grizzlies in exchange for Future Considerations.

Adams is a Kelowna, British Columbia product who played in one game with Battlefords North Stars this season where he posted a 2.12 goals against average and a 0.941 save percentage.

Adams had previously played for the Okanagan Rockets U18 AAA team in the BCEHL last season where he had a 4-5-0 record in 9 games played with a 3.67 goals against average.

NHL legend Jeremy Roenick headlines Weyburn Red Wings fundraiser

Next month Jeremy Roenick, who had a stellar 20-year career in the NHL but is most known for his time with the Chicago Blackhawks, will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Ahead of his being inducted, he made a stop in Weyburn last night, where he spoke as part of a fundraiser for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings.

Terriers go back to Virden to face Oil Capitals in second consecutive matchup

The Portage Terriers are back in action tonight for their second of consecutive games against the Virden Oil Capitals at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. The Dogs won the first meeting on Sunday, October 20, by a 5-2 score.

An outstanding week placed the Terriers in the #1 spot of the MJHL's Power Rankings, with wins over the Oil Capitals, the Steinbach Pistons and the Niverville Nighthawks, outscoring their opponents 12-5 over the week span.

Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football Championships set for Friday

The minor football season ends in Moose Jaw this week as it goes out with a pair of exciting championship games.

On Friday, October 25, Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football (KMJMF) is holding its U12 and U14 championship matchups at Elks Field. In U12 the Moose Jaw Bulldogs play the Moose Jaw Lions at 6 p.m. and in U14, the Weyburn Falcons come to town to face the Moose Jaw Raiders at 8 p.m.

Sports Update - Friday, October 25th

The Tiger Hills Hockey League's 2024-25 season begins tonight with a pair of games. The Boissevain Border Kings host the Virden Oil Kings and the Carberry Plainsmen meet the Wild in MacGregor. The league will operate with 12 teams this season. Boissevain, Virden, the Deloraine Royals, Hartney Blues, Melita Bisons and Souris Elks are in the West Division. Carberry, MacGregor, the Killarney Shamrocks, Minnedosa Bombers, Neepawa Farmers and Rivers Jets are in the East Division.
