Sylvan Lake Gulls return to the diamond
The exhibition game for the Sylvan Lake Gulls U19 Prep team is set for tonight against the Red Deer Riggers at 7:05 p.m. and tickets are just $5.
Tonight’s game offers fans a chance to see the next generation of Gulls players and to give a warm welcome to the visiting Red Deer athletes.
Meanwhile, Gulls players from around the world are making their way to Sylvan Lake this weekend as the club prepares for the “Sea of Gold” home opener on May 29.
Micro-surfacing scheduled to begin this week in Ponoka
As part of the Town of Ponoka’s annual Roadway and Sidewalk Improvement Programs, micro-surfacing is scheduled to begin later this week (weather permitting). Micro-surfacing will occur along the following roadways:
• 57 Avenue between 60 Street and 63 Street;
• 46 Street between 50 Avenue and Highway 53;
• 51 Street between 48 Avenue and 53 Avenue;
• 54 Street between Highway 2A and 63 Avenue;
• 54 Avenue between 56 Street and 58 Street;

Stettler County approves new fire commission, parts ways with town after a decade
At a special council meeting on May 21, council for the County of Stettler No. 6 unanimously approved a motion to create a regional fire commission to better meet the county’s long-term apparatus, infrastructure and operational priorities, and to withdraw from the existing regional fire agreement with the Town of Stettler.
Poilievre names 48 Conservative MPs as critics, announces House leadership team
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has named 73 MPs to his party's leadership team and critic roles ahead of next week's return to the House of Commons.
He has named 48 Conservative members of Parliament to critic roles, while another 14 will become associate critics.
Most of them are returning MPs, though some have been shuffled to new positions left by people who were not re-elected on April 28.
Here's what to know if Canada Post workers go on strike again
Canadians could soon find out if there will be another labour disruption at the national postal operator.
The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post employees has said it is reviewing a set of proposals for urban workers, along with rural and suburban carriers.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers issued a 72-hour strike notice on Tuesday, and the deadline is Friday at midnight.
Canada Post says the new offers address several concerns, and it is offering a wage increase of 13.59 per cent over four years.

The meeting between the group's finance ministers and central bank governors in Banff, Alta., is a prelude to the G7 leaders summit in June in nearby Kananaskis.
It comes in the wake of the U.S. imposing global tariffs that have resulted in many countries reconsidering their trading relationships.

RCMP looking for suspect known to frequent Rimbey, Sylvan Lake or Ponoka County
Alberta RCMP needs your help in tracking down Ryan Paul Reiser, who is wanted for various crimes.
Reiser was featured in this week's Wanted Wednesday profile.
He was last seen in Ponoka County and is also known to frequent Rimbey and Sylvan Lake.
