Nanton is wanting to borrow money to complete critical upgrades

The Town of Nanton is aiming to borrow money to complete some upgrades.

They recently did a first reading of a new bylaw that would allow the town to borrow money to complete critical upgrades to their sludge handling system that at their wastewater treatment plant.

Upon the final passage and approval of the bylaw, Bylaw 1401 allows the Town to borrow $581,900 to complete those upgrades.

Free children's car seat clinic being held at High River Fire Hall

The High River Fire Hall is hosting a free Car Seat Clinic for those who would like better education on how to properly buckle in their newborn or child.

The clinic runs today (Oct. 24) from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. with Samantha Waddell, a CPST-Instructor supervising the event.

Parents who attend the event will get hands-on help in how to make sure their child is protected and safe in their car seat as well as helping address any concerns people could have.

Trudeau says he will remain prime minister despite caucus revolt

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he has no intention of stepping down as the leader of the Liberal party by next week. 

A letter signed by two dozen Liberal MPs asking Trudeau to step down was presented to the prime minister Wednesday at a tense caucus meeting in Ottawa.

The letter asked for him to let the caucus know by Oct. 28 what he decides to do.

Trudeau told MPs he would reflect on what was said, but when asked today if he would stay on as prime minister after that date he answered a definitive "yes." 

Alberta, Ottawa discuss funding for homelessness, more talks expected in coming days

The federal housing minister and the Alberta minister in charge of the file have spoken about funding to tackle encampments and homelessness.

The phone conversation comes after Housing Minister Sean Fraser said in a statement Tuesday that Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan hadn't formally responded to an offer of funding.

Officials say that during the call, Jason Nixon, Alberta's minister of seniors, community and social services, expressed his government's continued willingness to partner with Ottawa and to cost-match the additional federal funding.

Frozen waffles and pancakes are on recall due to Listeria monocytogenes

There has been a recall of a number of frozen waffles and pancakes after Listeria monocytogenes were found.

The companies that have been affected include Compliments, Duncan Hines, Gordon Choice, Great Value, Life Smart, Natures Path Organic, no name, President's Choice, and Selection. 

28 products have been recalled.

Remembrance Day ceremony set for High River and the Legion

The Remembrance Day ceremony in High River on November 11th is all set.

Past president of the High River Royal Canadian Legion Bob Collins says in preparation for the ceremony you can buy your poppies starting Friday.

Collins says they're making it easy again this year to pick up your poppies and support the veterans.

"We're out at all four stores and that being No Frills, Canadian Tire, Co-op and Sobey's."

Why are we seeing so many northern lights?

The Northern Lights seem to be appearing more often than usual this year.

According to Roland Dechesne, an astronomer with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, there's a reason why we're seeing more of the aurora borealis.

"There has been a lot going on this year, and that's because the sun is in the most active portion of its 11-year solar cycle," said Dechesne. 

Town of Nanton is having trouble with payments made through TD Bank

The Town of Nanton is having trouble with payments that are made through TD Bank.

They recently took to Facebook to inform residents that they are having issues when people are trying to pay a utility bill or make a tax payment through TD Bank's bill payment portal.

While the Town is receiving the money, and it is showing in the Town's account, they aren't being given proper notifications for the transactions and TD isn't able to provide the Town with the names of who made the payment.

5 million adults without primary care, surgeries returning to normal: CIHI report

A new report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information says 83 per cent of adults in this country have a regular primary-care provider, but that still leaves 5.4 million adults without one. 

It says seniors 65 years and older are more likely to have access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner than younger adults between 18 and 34. 

Access to primary care is highest in Ontario and lowest in Nunavut. 

Foothills Bantam Eagles set for Division 1 playoff debut

The Foothills Bantam Eagles are set to play in their first-ever Division 1 playoff showdown this weekend.

The Eagles are set to play the Calgary Colts at Shouldice Artificial Turf Hellard on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 4:00 p.m. for the first-round game.

The Foothills-based team put up a 6-2 record this season and outscored their opponents 322-127 in the process. The Colts are coming off of an undefeated season and they outscored their opponents 286-46 this season.
