Number of federal public service jobs could drop by almost 60,000, report predicts

A new report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says the federal public service could shed almost 60,000 jobs over the next four years as Ottawa looks to cut costs.

Earlier this month, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne sent letters to multiple ministers asking them to identify cuts to program spending at their departments of 15 per cent by 2028-29.

The report, written by Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives senior economist David Macdonald, says the federal public service could lose up to 57,000 employees by 2028.

Foothills County residents could be treated to a light show the next few nights

Those in the southern part of the province could be seeing a bit of a light show the next couple nights.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there will be some Auroa Borealis activity tonight (Friday, July 25) and Saturday.

Tonight, almost all of Canada could see the Northern Lights, as the NOAA says tonight Aurora is forecasted to be at Kp 2.

The Kp index ranges from 0 to 9 and measures the geomagnetic activity, which then indicated how far from the northern pole the Aurora will be seen.

Police seek suspect in suspicious child encounter in south Calgary

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is asking for information from the public regarding a recent suspicious interaction in south Calgary.

The incident happened in the community of Auburn Bay on Tuesday, July 8, at around 4:30 p.m.

According to CPS, three children were playing outside in the 300 block of Auburn Meadows Manor S.E. when a man approached them and asked if they had seen his dog.

The children told the man they had just seen a black-and-white dog run past, pointed him in the direction it went, and the man walked away.

Garbage collection in Nanton is getting prepped for Nanton Round-Up Days

The town of Nanton is getting ready for Nanton Round-Up Days, which is coming up soon.

Nanton Round-Up Days runs from Aug. 1 to 4, and on the holiday Monday, there will be the Nanton Boosters Parade, starting at 10 a.m.

T & T Disposal will be testing out their parade route on Monday, July 28, in preparation for the parade.

Because of the preparations, residents are being asked to have their garbage bins out by 7 a.m. sharp on that day, as the garbage collection route will be different than normal.
