The spirit of community and care was on full display at Loose Creek Regional Park as Bow Valley Villa held its third annual cornhole tournament, drawing in 32 teams for a day of friendly competition and heartfelt fundraising.
Wanda Richie, one of the managers at Bow Valley Villa, shared that the event is more than just a game; it's a lifeline. “We’re a privatized assisted care home in Oxbow, and we don’t receive any government funding,” Richie explained. “So we’re always having to fundraise to keep our doors open.”

This past weekend, the Sweetland family who live in Oakville, Manitoba turned a simple lemonade stand into a heartfelt community fundraiser in support of CancerCare Manitoba Foundation's Lemonade for Hope campaign.
For Kelly Sweetland, the initiative is deeply personal. "When my mother-in-law passed away eight years ago, we felt the need to fundraise for cancer care in her memory," she explained. Since then, more friends and family members have been affected by cancer, motivating the Sweetland's to continue fundraising.
