Thanksgiving is just a few days away! Oct 14th! 

Families and friends like yours will gather to give thanks and *gobble* down a delicious meal sometime this weekend and here is some trivia to share around the dinner table: 

The Cochrane Elves for Seniors have kicked off their gift drive early this year to help make Christmas special for local seniors spending it on their own.

Cheryl DeMaere Ellis, one of the head elves, says they seek a total of 1,606 gifts, and have had a strong initial response.

They will be delivering gifts to seniors in Hawthorne, Grand Ave. Village, Bethany Cochrane, Big Hill Lodge as well as providing some gifts for FCSS to distribute. More independent seniors have been added to the list this year.

Kristina Muise has won a $50 gift card from Pet Value for some toys and treats for Indira.

At a special event Monday evening (October 7th), Ralph Friesen is sharing details of his new book, "Prosperity Ever - Depression Never" which looks at the history of Steinbach. 

The Author Reading takes place at Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, and Joanne Friesen believes there is value in hosting local writers. 

The High River Autoplex, RV & Marine proudly awarded Tracy Cuffe, Coordinator of The River City Classic 3rd Annual Brian Chipchase Memorial Show N Shine $500 this past week.  Tracy was nominated for her work in organizing the incredibly successful weekend through an annual program on 99.7 Sun Country & High River Online

It's a question that has been on the mind of many in Weyburn...what exactly is going on at Weyburn's City Centre Mall? 

A number of rumours have been circulating as of late, partially due to several businesses leaving the mall. The most recent business to shut its doors was the BMO branch in Weyburn. 

With a clear sky Sunday evening, the Northern Lights put on a brightly coloured show across the Southeast. 

Here are some photos captured by local residents, showing the brilliant red, green and yellow waves that danced across the sky.

Carnie's Comments

The clean-up continues across much of southern Saskatchewan today after an Alberta Clipper blew through on the weekend, producing wind gusts up and over 100 km/h. It was a wicked wind from the west and it caused damage, bring trees down and blowing at least one semi-trailer unit right off the highway.

I had to run some errands on Saturday. It was difficult just opening and closing the car door.

I walked into a business just as an old acquaintance of mine was doing the same. 

The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is gearing up for its biggest fundraising event of the year. 

There will be a live and silent auction, a puppy kissing booth, a dog toy scramble (where someone will win $500), and a delicious buffet dinner
