TODAY: Grab a BBQ lunch and support the Pebbles to Rocks Childcare Centre

We've been really inspired by the progress of Pebbles to Rocks Childcare Centre and their team's dedication to bringing another daycare to Estevan. The project as a whole costs about $3.1 million, and they're about halfway to the goal thanks to grants from the Ministry of Education and donations from the community. The fundraising continues for their team. They're inviting everyone to a barbecue lunch tomorrow from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Southern Plains Co-op in Estevan.

Steinbach Animal Rescue encourages reading time with animals

Cats and kittens at Steinbach and Area Animal Rescue are helping children develop literacy skills.

Michelle Neufeld, President of SAAR, says the shelter has welcomed a number of children who come in to read to the animals or spend time colouring quietly in the cat rooms.

“You’d be surprised how well that does for the animals’ health, and the kids,” she says. “It’s very cute.”

Carnie's Comments - Throwback Thursday

Carnie's Comments

It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good ol' days.

It was a question on social media that sparked a memory for me today; "Why is it you can trust your dog to guard your house but not your sandwich?"

It takes me back to childhood and Sunday supper at the house. Sometimes my three siblings and I were allowed to eat in the living room so we could watch "The Wonderful World of Disney" on TV.

I was 5 or 6. My sisters and brother were teenagers.

Clash of the Tater Titans: McCain Vs. Simplot

It's a big night at Rotary Republic Park here in Portage la Prairie, as two industry giants, McCain and Simplot, go head-to-head in the long-running charity soft ball game known locally as the 'Battle of the Tater Titans'. But this isn't just about bragging rights. It's about community, compassion, and a cause close to many hearts in the community, supporting Central Plains Cancer Services and their Kids Fighting Cancer programs.

Started in 2004 by Gary Bergson and Mark Morgan, the annual game has become a staple event in Portage la Prairie.
