It ain't what it used to be but it's still high-caliber, entertaining baseball.
The Western Canadian Baseball League season is underway for another summer with 12 teams in the loop, including 5 based in Saskatchewan.
The league's roots can be traced back to 1931 when the Southern Baseball League was founded.
A community effort: Salem BBQ raising funds for park
The Salem Home Foundation and the Ladies’ Auxiliary hosted their annual Spring Fundraiser BBQ Wednesday, May 28th to raise funds to improve Salem Park. Karin Oliveira, CEO of Salem Home and executive director of the Salem Foundation, notes that the fundraiser would not only pay for the concrete sidewalk of the park, but also other features for the residents of Salem Home and the community to use. “We like to see the community coming out.” Oliveira shared.

Brokenshell Multiple 4-H Club hosting puzzle challenge for poultry project
As the month of June fast approaches and the sun keeps shining, many more events pop up throughout southeast Saskatchewan for people to enjoy and take part in. However, if you’re looking for an event away from the sun, the Brokenshell Multiple 4-H Club is hosting a Puzzle Challenge raising funds for their poultry project. Martens Mutterings: Priority? Fun over winning
So, I'm playing slo-pitch this year for the first time in many years. In the first game of the season, I had a couple poor hits, and a bobbled ball in the outfield. And I was mad at myself. Than the next game, I hurt my quads(both) running. Which, if that isn't a tell-tale sign that you're beginning to age, I don't know what is. Our team played again last night, and in the 2 weeks we had off from ball, I did a little soul searching as to why I'm even playing.
