Watch for farm equipment during harvest season

With the start of harvest season, you’ll likely come across farm equipment on highways and grid roads in Saskatchewan.

Kevin Fallis named Sask NDP candidate in Humboldt-Watrous constituency for the upcoming provincial election

The Saskatchewan NDP have named their candidate for the Humboldt-Watrous area for the upcoming provincial election. 

Kevin Fallis was nominated by local Saskatchewan New Democrat members on Sunday in Watrous.

“I am honoured to be your candidate here in Humboldt-Watrous,” said Fallis in a release. “Saskatchewan deserves better than last place on education and healthcare. I’m proud to join Carla Beck. She has a plan to get Saskatchewan out of last place and build a brighter future for everyone in Saskatchewan.”

Royals earn one win at Western Canadians in BC

The Marysburg Royals competed in the Western Canadian Senior Baseball Championships in Delta BC on the weekend. 

It was a tough weekend, with the results not going the Royals way.

Their first game saw the Royals lose to the South Delta Padres 1-0

The Royals second game was a 4-3 loss to at the hands of the West Winnipeg A's.

In their third game, Marysburg was defeated by South Delta Brewers 8-4. 

To finish off the tournament, the Royals ended up with their only win, a 7-0 shutout victory over the Parkland Twins from Alberta.

Broadcaster Charles Adler, hospital exec Tracy Muggli named to Senate to represent Manitoba and Saskatchewan

Veteran broadcaster Charles Adler and Saskatchewan hospital executive Tracy Muggli are Canada's latest independent senators, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Saturday. 

Adler came to Canada from Hungary as a refugee at a young age and spent more than 50 years as a radio host and journalist.

A news release from the prime minister's office said Adler, who will represent Manitoba, used his platform to champion human rights and Canadian democracy during his long career.  

Days after wildfire evacuation ends, Jasper makes progress on path back to normal

The people of Jasper are making progress on getting back to normal after being allowed back to their town, cleaning their homes, re-uniting with neighbours and seeking insurance information.

Friday was the first day residents were allowed back after a wildfire forced the evacuation of the entire community, which eventually lost close to one third of its structures in the blaze.

SARM President Ray Orb steps down, nominations slated for January

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) will be looking for a new leader soon, as President Ray Orb announced he's stepping down from the top job. 

"After 20 years of proudly serving SARM, the timing just feels right. Since announcing back in March that I wouldn’t be seeking re-election, the transition has gone so smoothly that there wasn’t any real reason to delay stepping down," Orb shared in a press release sent out yesterday. 

Moosomin offering $30,000 to people building houses and apartments in town

One southeast community is taking a unique approach to building up housing and attracting people to the community with a cash bonus.

Moosomin is offering $30,000 to anyone who builds a house in their town, with an additional $8,000 per unit for multi-unit dwellings.

Larry Tomlinson, the mayor of Moosomin, says that they're able to pay for that thanks to a federal housing program.

Canadian government lists old NYC residence for $13M, surpassing cost of new luxury condo

Canada is selling its former Manhattan residence, which used to house its consulate general in New York.

The 12-room, five-bedroom apartment located on Park Avenue was listed Thursday at over $13 million, which is expected to exceed the purchase of its new $9 million Manhattan condo located on Billionaires' Row.

Global Affairs Canada said the new condo is smaller and more suitable, saying that the old unit, which was purchased in 1961 and last renovated in 1982, needed updates to the electrical, heating, ventilation and plumbing.

Conservative MP calls for emergency committee meeting to study violence against women

A Conservative member of Parliament is calling for an emergency meeting to launch a study on violence against women.

Michelle Ferreri has written a letter to fellow MPs on the House of Commons status of women committee requesting to  
immediately recall members for the study.

This comes after two witnesses invited to testify on their personal experience with domestic violence tearfully stormed out of a committee hearing last month that devolved into political bickering.
