Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government could have acted faster on reining in immigration programs, after blaming "bad actors" for gaming the system.
Trudeau released a nearly seven-minute video on YouTube Sunday talking about the recent reduction in permanent residents being admitted to Canada and changes to the temporary foreign worker program.
Over the next two years, the permanent residency stream is being reduced by about 20 per cent to 365,000 in 2027.

Date set for Throne Speech and fall sitting of the legislature
Premier Scott Moe has set a date for the start of a new Legislative Assembly. Monday November 25th will be the beginning of the fall sitting which is expected to last two weeks allowing for debate and passage of the Throne Speech. The government says it will also include introducing bills required to fulfill promises made on the campaign trail.
RCMP scoop up five people wanted on warrants
Over the course of three days, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Saskatoon Warrant Enforcement and Response Team (WEST) arrested five people in the Lloydminster area who were wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
Last Tuesday police located and arrested 23-year-old Shania Heathen of Lloydminster at a business in Lloydminster. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Maidstone RCMP for possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, as well as for breaching her conditional sentence order. She is also facing a new charge of possession of schedule I substance (fentanyl).
RCMP seize 31 firearms in Lafleche as part of an investigation
Charges have been laid against two people after the RCMP seized 31 firearms from a residence in Lafleche and a rural yard site south of the town.
On Nov. 8, at around 11:25 a.m., the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Swift Current Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT), Police Dog Services, Gravelbourg Detachment, National Weapons Enforcement Support Team and the Regina Police Service Crime Reduction Team executed search warrants on the properties as part of an ongoing investigation.

Chief electoral officer proposes legislative changes to crack down on deepfakes
Canada's elections chief wants a ban on the misrepresentation of candidates and other key players in the electoral process through manipulation of their voice or image without consent.
The proposed change to the Canada Elections Act is among several measures chief electoral officer Stéphane Perrault is putting forward to address the use of deepfakes and other artificially created content to fool voters.
In an interview, Perrault said he is "hoping to convince" MPs to expand an electoral reform bill, currently in a House of Commons committee, to include some new elements.
