MacGregor golfer captures first Grey Owl title at Clear Lake
A familiar face at the Grey Owl men’s golf tournament is finally a champion.
Darcy Howarth, a 50-year-old from MacGregor, went wire-to-wire over the weekend to win the 63rd annual tournament at Clear Lake Golf Course.
Playing through steady rain and chilly conditions, Howarth posted rounds of 69 and 76 for a 145 total, good enough to hold off two-time champion Jared Jacobson of Brandon by three strokes.
Howarth entered Sunday’s final round with a one-shot lead over St. Charles’ Curtis Markusson.

A couple rounds of precipitation arrived across the Pembina and Red River Valleys over the weekend.
"The first came mid to late Saturday afternoon when the cold front associated with a low pressure system centred over northern Manitoba swept through the region," explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. "A line of storms from the Interlake south into North Dakota developed along that front. There have been a couple of reports of extremely gusty winds as the front moved from west to east."

Manglai a product co-ordinator with the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation put together the latest report, adding there were very few weather interruptions, just a few localized showers.
In terms of crop development, almost all crops are ahead of average. The soil conditions are trending drier, but there's hope that producers could see some significant impact with June rains.

MLA Lauren Stone advocates for safer gym at Elm Creek
Midland MLA Lauren Stone recently raised concerns in the Manitoba Legislature about the need for a new gymnasium at Elm Creek School, citing overcrowding and safety issues.
She notes, “Physical education classes are overcrowded, and there is insufficient space for whole school assemblies and events.”
The current gym is aging and no longer meets the needs of the growing student population.
