With election day less than a week away, voters in the Cochrane area will have two opportunities tonight to hear from local candidates.

The Airdrie and Cochrane chambers of commerce are hosting a virtual forum at 7 p.m. for candidates running in the Airdrie-Cochrane riding. The event aims to give residents a chance to learn more about the candidates' platforms and priorities.

After a busy Easter weekend, the team at Cochrane Alliance Church deserves a chance to kick up their feet with the McCafé Coffee Break!

The team at the church was nominated by a local community member who shared heartfelt words of appreciation.

Cochrane Eco Centre

The Cochrane Eco Centre, located at 50 Griffin Industrial Point, is a self-sorting facility that accepts a variety of household waste items. The centre provides bins for yard waste, tree trimmings, and branches.

The occasional spring snowfall is not unusual for Western Canada, bringing additional moisture prior to seeding.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 in Cochrane is inviting veterans and the community to come together on May 8 to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945.

The Legion will host a roast beef dinner followed by entertainment, offering a chance to honour those who served and reflect on the freedoms they helped secure.

Drivers in Cochrane should prepare for temporary lane closures throughout the week due to utility inspections and maintenance work.

The Town of Cochrane announced on a Facebook post that from April 22 to 24, lanes on Centre Avenue and First Street East will be closed for underground utility inspections.

Businesses in the area will remain accessible during this time.

A woman in her 20s was seriously injured in a ski accident at Banff Sunshine Village over the weekend.

The crash happened Sunday on a black diamond run at Lookout Mountain.

The 26-year-old skier from Sweden was reportedly traveling at high speed when she struck a snow roller and lost control. 

Resort staff who witnessed the incident responded immediately, stabilizing her at the scene before transporting her to the base of the hill.

She was then flown by Stars Air Ambulance, in critical condition, to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

A judge has granted Alberta's government its request to question the former head of the provincial health authority about confidential emails she is accused of keeping and sharing without permission, including to media.

The government's request was made last month when it filed for an injunction in the high-profile lawsuit launched by Athana Mentzelopoulos, the former chief executive of Alberta Health Services.
