A local aviation buff is providing young people with the tools to build a potential career in the industry.

Warren Klippenstein, lead volunteer for the Aviation Department at YFC Altona - Youth Unlimited, is leading a team of youth in fashioning a flying airplane from scratch using sheets of metal and angle iron.

Josh Okello gives up federal aspirations to run for Morden-Winkler MLA

Another name has been removed from the list of candidates vying to fill Candice Bergen's seat as the Conservative MP for Portage-Lisgar. 
    
Josh Okello has shifted his aspirations to provincial politics instead, and is now vying for the Progressive Conservative nomination in Morden-Winkler.

Born and raised in a rural village located in the east African country of Kenya, Okello emigrated to Canada in 2009 to pursue an education in business administration and philosophy. After graduating, he moved to Winkler where he met his wife and they've lived there ever since. 

Canadian Deaf Curling Program attracts future curlers with day-long clinic in Morris

The Canadian Deaf Curling Program was launched in 2018 to allow national teams to train for international competitions using industry-leading technology at the Morris Curling Club's Cargill Curling Training Centre.

On Monday, March 20th, the program brought a group of kids and staff from the Manitoba School for The Deaf to the state-of-the-art facility to experience a day of curling.

Shawna Joynt, acting president for the Manitoba Deaf Sports Association, says the event was aimed at drawing hearing-impaired young people to this official Olympic sport.

W.C. Miller Youth In Philanthropy extends partnership with Altona Community Foundation

W.C. Miller Collegiate’s Youth In Philanthropy (YIP) group has committed to extending its partnership with Altona Community Foundation (ACF) for another three years.

The aim of the collaboration is to provide a high school-level philanthropic program that encourages community action among students. 

Friesens Corporation to acquire new press

Friesens Corporation will be upgrading one of its aging Timson presses with a brand new model.

The two Timsons currently in use at the Altona-based printer are proven workhorses in the single-color product line, providing the company with high quality and reliability. 

However, much to the company's disappointment, Timsons ceased production in 2015. 

Now, Timsons Engineering and CPI Corporation have announced a partnership to start building the presses again.  
That announcement coincides with Friesens' plan to upgrade its operation.

Long-time educator Jennifer Klippenstein appointed Interim Principal of MCI in Gretna

The board of Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) in Gretna has appointed Jennifer Klippenstein as Interim Principal and Head of School.

The Altona resident has been an educator for over 20 years, with the last two spent teaching at MCI. During her career, she has worked with students at a variety of age levels and has been involved extensively in community sports. 

Morris boy makes a big difference for RCMP

Young Lincoln Boyer is a champion of the RCMP.

The 13-year-old boy from Morris has been on a mission to change the public's perception of the RCMP, the force he hopes to join someday. 

His first step towards that goal was sending affirmative postcards to detachments across Canada, telling officers that "they are awesome!"
