A Manitoba thrift store is celebrating a half-century of work and seeing overwhelming success.

The Steinbach MCC Thrift Store has been a place where many in the community have visited to purchase affordable household items and articles of gently used clothing for the past 50 years. It recently held a "Then to Now" Information Night at the Grace Mennonite Church in Steinbach.

Members of ATV clubs from across Manitoba spent last Sunday in Woodridge, testing out new trail grooming equipment.

Gary Hora, President of the Woodridge ATV Sandhogs says they were in need of a new trail groomer and so he reached out to The Shop Industrial, out of Sudbury, Ontario. He notes it’s a company that makes larger snowmobile trail groomers and was now making smaller models for ATV and walking trails.

Steinbach Christian School (SCS) has seen remarkable growth and achievements over the past nine months, culminating in a graduating class that has doubled in size compared to the previous year.  

“Quiet and respectful” That is Principal Penny Alcock’s description of the graduating class at Vita Shevchenko.

She adds that in a year that was marked by many achievements and community spirit, the 19 students in the class of 2024 made a significant impact on the school.

Alcock notes that, this year, there was a real emphasis and commitment to wellness and creativity.

Well known for her career in volleyball as player and coach, Michelle Sawatzky-Koop was honoured by being inducted into the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame Wednesday evening in Ottawa.

Michelle Sawatzky-Koop says the anticipation coming up to the event was very special, while the evening itself was amazing.

It’s been exactly three months and 16 days since the re-opening of the Catholic Church in Vita, Manitoba.

The 100-year-old Saint Isidor church had sat empty for many years, and then last fall, Steinbach resident and member of the Catholic Church in Steinbach took steps to open its doors in order to give local parishioners a place to worship.

A Steinbach Christian School student represented Manitoba last weekend at MusicFest 2024 Canada in Toronto.  

Benjamin Hiebert from Blumenort is in Grade 11 at SCS, and has been singing since he was eight years old. His mother Dana says he was looking for a way to challenge himself and so he auditioned for the national choir competition.

Gary Dyck will take over from Lydia Summerville-Dueck who will be on maternity leave until 2025.
