Dyck's shutout leads Broncos to game 1 win
The Swift Current Broncos earned a 3-0 win to open their 2024 First Round playoff series on Friday night to take a 1-0 series lead.
Reid Dyck made 33 saves in the game, including 19-saves in the third period, keeping the zero on the scoreboard, making numerous ten-bell saves.
Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said it was a pretty special performance from their superstar netminder.
Broncos drop regular season finale to Hitmen
The Swift Current Broncos dropped a 6-3 decision to the Calgary Hitmen on Saturday night to cap off the regular season.
The Broncos took a 2-0 lead after the first period thanks to goals from Conor Geekie and Clarke Caswell, but the Hitmen came back hard. Calgary scored five unanswered in the second including four of which that were on the powerplay.
The two teams then traded goals in the third period as Dawson Gerwing scored for the Broncos and Keets Fawcett for the Hitmen.
Broncos Sign Yerex to Scholarship and Development Agreement
The Swift Current Broncos announced today that they have signed 2008-born defenceman Daxon Yerex to a WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement.
Yerex (6’1”/179lbs), out of Oak Bluff, Manitoba, was the Broncos third-round pick (52nd overall) in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.
“Daxon is a very intelligent defender who makes good puck decisions,” said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie. “He has the ability to play a lot of minutes, can play either side and is comfortable in all situations. We are very excited to have Daxon join our organization.”
Broncos beat Brandon in bruhaha at Innovationplex
The Swift Current Broncos won a wild game on Saturday Night at home, a 6-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings in a game that had it all.
The game slowly approached a crescendo in front a sold out InnovationPlex as it was just 1-0 after one for the Broncos courtesy of an Owen Pickering powerplay goal late in the frame. The offence came to play in the second period as the Wheat Kings scored twice in less than a minute, courtesy of Jayden Wiens and Mateo Michels.
Broncos build snowman against Oil Kings
The Swift Current Broncos did their part but didn’t get the help they needed from the Calgary Hitmen on Wendesday night as they try to earn their spot in the 2024 WHL Playoffs.
The Broncos defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 8-2, where all but three Broncos earned at least a point in the game. It was somewhat revenge as well for the Broncos after they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Oil Kings on Saturday.
Broncos Defenceman Tyson Galloway said it was nice to get the Oil Kings back just days later.
Broncos win streak ends at seven with loss to Oil Kings
The Swift Current Broncos seven game win streak was snapped on Saturday night in Edmonton with a 4-1 loss to the Oil Kings.
It was a tough night for the Broncos who gave up the first goal in the game just about four minutes in. It was the only even strength goal scored in the contest as Gavin Hodnett got Edmonton on the board.

The Swift Current Broncos are now up to seven straight victories after a 7-5 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night to open up a two-game Alberta road swing.

For the second time in four weeks, Broncos goaltender Reid Dyck has been named the WHL’s Goaltender of the Week after an undefeated week in the Broncos crease.
In three games this week, Dyck was 3-0-0-0, with a 1.99 goals-against-average, and a .924 save percentage. Through two wins over Medicine Hat on the weekend, and a Family Day win over Moose Jaw on Monday, Dyck stopped a total of 74 shots, while only allowing six goals.
Hvidston's overtime winner leads Broncos over Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos win streak is now up to six games in a row after a 4-3 overtime victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night in Medicine Hat.
The win gave the Broncos a two-win weekend over their rivals and are now just three points behind for the Central Division lead.
Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby said it wasn’t their best game of the season, but they found a way to win, and they did a good job against a Medicine Hat team that was looking to respond after a loss on Friday night.
Mistelbacher Missiles help Broncos to fifth straight win
The Swift Current Broncos win streak is now up to five games after a 4-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first game of a home and home set.
Friday marked the first of four more games between the two clubs heading down the home stretch with lots on the line, including the Central Division lead.
It was the Broncos that got off to the good start as Luke Mistelbacher scored on the powerplay with less than two minutes to play in the first period, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead after one period.
