Broncos fall to Cougars in tight game in Prince George

The Swift Current Broncos opened their B.C. road swing with a 2-1 loss to the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday night.

It was a back-and-forth game throughout with both teams getting some chances through two periods, but the game was tied at 0-0 after one, and 1-1 after two. Koehn Ziemmer scored for Prince George, while Josh Filmon got the Broncos on the board with a powerplay goal.

Broncos fall in back-and-forth affair to Tigers in overtime

The Swift Current Broncos earned a point in what was a wild matchup in the Central Division on Friday night at InnovationPlex.

The Broncos ultimately fell 8-7 in overtime in the contest that saw the Broncos hold three different three-goal leads.

Jace McFaul, Rylan Gould, and Brady Birnie all scored before eight minutes had elapsed in the first period, and the Broncos seemed to be off to the races. However, Gavin McKenna would make it 3-1 before a short-handed Josh Filmon goal made it 4-1 to end the first period.

Broncos offence erupts in Wednesday win over Wheat Kings

The Swift Current Broncos finally found their offensive stride on Wednesday night in a 6-2 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.

The first period didn’t go as planned for the Broncos as they were behind 2-1 through 20 minutes after Roger McQueen opened the scoring for Brandon. Brady Birnie tied the game on a breakaway feed from Rylan Gould to tie it up 1-1, but a late Brett Hyland powerplay goal had the Broncos down one through one.

Ward scores twice but Broncos fall to Wheat Kings

A tough visit to Manitoba for the Swift Current Broncos as they fell 6-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday evening.

A night after not allowing a goal against Calgary, the Broncos gave up a goal just 42 seconds in to former Bronco Kayden Sadhra-Kang. That was followed by Dominik Petr on the powerplay to give the Wheat Kings a 2-0 lead through one period.

Rocha & Hvidston shine as Broncos defeat Hitmen for first win

The Swift Current Broncos are on the board with their first win of the season after a 3-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at the InnovationPlex.

From the get-go, the Broncos led the way. Outside of a shift here and there, the momentum was on the side of Swift Current for the majority of the night. Assistant Coach Taras McEwen called it the club's most complete effort of the year.

“I thought we held a lot of the play, right from the start,” he said. “A lot of the things we talked about, we did early and consistently so it was good to see.”

Broncos post tough deficit at AGM

The Swift Current Broncos held their Annual General Meeting at the InnovationPlex on Tuesday, September 26, recapping the 2022/2023 season.

Nine members currently sit on the Broncos board after three were re-elected on Wednesday, and Al Stewart did not renew his position on the Board. Stewart spent over 25 years on the Broncos Board of Directors, including 18 as Governor. The Broncos thank Stewart for all his hard work over the years with the organization.

Broncos acquire Turner from Wheat Kings for draft pick

The Swift Current Broncos announced today that they have acquired 2004-born defenceman Zach Turner from the Brandon Wheat Kings, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Turner (6’3”/192lbs), out of Boissevain, Man., has played two games with the Wheat Kings this season, being held scoreless with four penalty minutes, and a minus-one rating. During the 2023/2024 pre-season, Turner notched three assists in two games for the Wheat Kings.

Broncos bested by Hurricanes in front of boisterous crowd

It was a near sellout crowd at the InnovationPlex, but the Swift Current Broncos fell to the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2 to fall to 0-2-0-0 on the 2023/2024 season.

The Hunter Brothers serenaded the crowd with a scintillating rendition of O’ Canada, and the energy in the arena was high. Swift Current outshot the Hurricanes 9-7 in the first period and had a few Grade A scoring chances, but Harrison Meneghin stood tall in the Lethbridge net.
