18UAA Humboldt Broncos kick off their new season

The U18AA Humboldt Broncos have been working hard and have a few games under their belts under the lead of Head Coach Kevin Henry of Prince Albert. The team consists of 19 players from several communities including Humboldt, St. Brieux, Bruno, Wakaw, Leroy, Watson, Wadena, Southend and Kelvington.
The team played 3 exhibition games to start off their pregame season, travelling to Lloydminster on the 24 and 25 of September to take on the Blazers. There they tied the first game 2-2 and lost the second one 5-1.
WUQWATR receives $50,000 Nutrien grant for land stewardship
Wascana & Upper Qu’Appelle Watersheds Association Taking Responsibility, Inc. is better known by its abbreviation WUQWATR. The nonprofit organization works to protect source water in the Wascana and Upper Qu’Appelle watersheds. WUQWATR’s boundaries extend from Humboldt to Tyvan and from Central Butte to east of Regina. The organization has received a $50,000 grant from Nutrien to support an environmental stewardship of marginal lands in Saskatchewan.
SaskEnergy returns with an opportunity to "Share the Warmth"
One of SaskEnergy’s flagship community programs—Share the Warmth—is back to support Saskatchewan people in need this winter.
The program offers cash grants of up to $1,000 for grassroots community initiatives that provide food, clothing, and shelter support to families, children, seniors, homeless persons, and others who may need a hand.
Rose Valley/Greenwater RCMP seek public assistance locating wanted male
An investigation by Rose Valley/Greenwater RCMP into a September 4 robbery in Archerwill has led to charges being laid against a suspect. That investigation has determined a male armed with a firearm entered a residence, threatened an occupant and stole a cell phone. The occupant received non-life-threatening injuries.
On September 25, 2022, Rose Valley/Greenwater RCMP charged Rylen Campeau with:
- one count, breaking, entering and committing, Section 348(1)(b), Criminal Code
- one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code
Flu vaccine clinics upcoming in Humboldt area
Along with reminders to keep COVID-19 vaccines up to date, the Saskatchewan Health Authority is reminding Saskatchewan residents not to forget about flu season. In a release, the SHA says early indications are that influenza 2023 is likely to return to pre-COVID-19 levels or higher. COVID restrictions kept flu outbreaks in check, but the concern is that flu cases, in tandem with ongoing COVID-19 transmission, will put additional pressure on the system.
Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP working on a trio of cases
Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in a trio of cases.
The detachment is tracking down those responsible for a theft that occurred overnight between September 11 and 12. Various garden tools were stolen from a shed behind a building on the 700 block of Main Street in Humboldt.
A second crime occurred over the night of September 21 when a utility trailer was stolen from a business on 5th Avenue in Humboldt.
Truth and Reconciliation walk draws many to Westminster Church
Nearly 100 people gathered on Friday for a Truth and Reconciliation Walk organized by the Westminster Affirm Team. The group congregated in Civic Park and paused for a photo opportunity at the Kevin PeeAce mural at City Hall. The walk proceeded alongside Highway 20, ending at Westminster United Church with a gathering, bannock, and messages brought by the Affirm Team.
Broncos go 3 for 3 on northern road swing
The Humboldt Broncos remain undefeated in the SJHL following a trio of games this weekend on their northern swing.
The Friday Night visit to La Ronge ended in a 2-0 win for the Horsemen with the power play clicking on both goals. Newly acquired Timothy Kim picked up his first SJHL goal in the second period, while Daylan Weigle wrapped up scoring with a second power play goal in the third.
Treaty boundary signage unveiled on Highway 11
On September 26, Saskatchewan's Lieutenant Governor, the Government of Saskatchewan and the Treaty Commissioner of Saskatchewan unveiled the official road signs to mark the Treaty 4-Treaty 6 boundary near Highway 11 - one of the province's busiest transportation links.
Pilger Pumpkin Fest is a harvest happening
A wind that blew pretty much everything around but the pumpkins didn’t douse the fun at the Pilger Pumpkins Festival on Saturday, September 24. There were pumpkins a plenty for the weigh in and every imaginable pumpkin themed edible up for grabs. The event had an all inclusive element to it. A wristband meant people could go back for seconds and thirds and it meant hungry patrons could scarf burgers to their hearts’ (and stomachs’) content.
