Yorkton’s Drug Response Team seizes illegal drugs following investigation
Yorkton’s Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) made a major bust, hauling in quantities of cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine following an extensive investigation.
An RCMP release stated that two search warrants were executed on a business and a vehicle in Yorkton on August 20 which yielded approximately 373 grams of cocaine, approximately 70 grams of fentanyl, approximately 544 grams of methamphetamine, a large sum of cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Humboldt road closures
Work continues for a couple of streets in Humboldt.
This week (August 19-26) the section of 12th street between 3rd and 4th Avenue will be closed off for concrete curbing.
Beginning today (Weds. Aug 21) until Friday August 30 the section of 4th Avenue between 10th Street and 14th Street will be closed.
Murder charges laid against Yellow Quill First Nations man
A man from Yellow Quill First Nation faces a charge of second-degree murder in a woman's death over the weekend.
At approximately 5 pm on Sunday, August 18, RCMP responded to a call reporting an injured person on Yellow Quill First Nation. A 24-year-old woman, identified as Terrance Tony-Kishayinew from Yellow Quill First Nation was declared deceased at the scene.
Kevin Fallis named Sask NDP candidate in Humboldt-Watrous constituency for the upcoming provincial election
The Saskatchewan NDP have named their candidate for the Humboldt-Watrous area for the upcoming provincial election.
Kevin Fallis was nominated by local Saskatchewan New Democrat members on Sunday in Watrous.
“I am honoured to be your candidate here in Humboldt-Watrous,” said Fallis in a release. “Saskatchewan deserves better than last place on education and healthcare. I’m proud to join Carla Beck. She has a plan to get Saskatchewan out of last place and build a brighter future for everyone in Saskatchewan.”
BHP hosts information meeting on latest round of seismic investigation
BHP invites residents of LeRoy and area to an information session to learn more about 3D seismic survey efforts in potash exploration north of the Jansen Mine site in the RM of LeRoy. Work will begin this fall and wrap up by 2025.
The meeting is slated for Thursday, August 15 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the LeRoy School Gym. The information presentation will be held at 5:30.
Harvest arrives with message from Ag Ministry
It may be a few days before harvest can get into full swing in east central Saskatchewan, but in many parts of the province, the swathers and combines are up and running. On August 12, the Government of Saskatchewan acknowledged the kickoff of the harvest season with some reminders for farmers and residents.
Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister David Marit gathered with local MLAs to deliver some important messaging, says a government release.
