The Humboldt and District Gallery hosts a collective work based on inspirations derived from a visit to Original Humboldt nearly one year ago. The display is on from September 3 – 16 on the Gallery’s 2nd Floor. 

Rural Saskatchewan medical practices, including those in east central Saskatchewan continue to see doctors take up residence. Physicians who have completed the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA) continue to fill vacancies in rural communities.  

In Rosthern, Dr. Janet Adel Fouad Abdelmalek will take up practice, and in Wynyard, Dr. Fatemeh Askarian will serve area patients.  

Isolated showers continue to put harvest into a holding pattern in East Central Saskatchewan. However, in its weekly crop report, the Ministry of Agriculture notes that farmers have made good progress over the past week with 25 per cent of the crop now harvested, ahead of the five-year average of 21 per cent.  

Unfortunately, from August 20th to August 26th, some areas were subject to strong winds and heavy hail. The forecast looks more promising for harvest progress with a string of warm and sunny days in store.  

A little overnight rain put a damper on harvest proceeding, but not on the spirits of everyone at the Parker Farm. Adam Parker and his family were the winners in this week’s Meal in the Field.  

The family gathered for an afternoon burger bar meal on Thursday as they waited for the crops to dry out from the previous night’s four-tenth's rainfall.  

The Humboldt Stingrays water polo team is thrilled to announce that registration for the upcoming season is now open to the public.  

Entering their second year, the Stingrays are eager to welcome both new and returning athletes to the pool. The coaching staff is excited to kick off the season, which officially begins on October 3rd.  

Practices are Thursdays and Sundays from 5-6pm.  

Get set for a closure of a stretch of the Yellowhead Highway following the long weekend. 

The Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway 16 west of Jansen will be closed from Tuesday, Sept. 3 to Friday, Sept 6, pending weather. 

The temporary closure is needed to accommodate installation of a rail crossing to support the BHP Jansen potash project. Traffic will be rerouted at the turnoff to the Jansen mine site, east/west along the paved access to the mine and along Highway 6. 

On Saturday, Kamsack RCMP along with local EMS and STARS responded to a report of a collision involving four pedestrians, three children and one adult on Key First Nation. 

 A female child under the age of 12 was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.  

Two other children, both females under the age of 12 were transported to hospital with serious injuries.  

Progress is being made towards a new long-term care home in Watson.  

The Saskatchewan Government announced on Friday they have released a Request for Proposals seeking a qualified project manager and owner's representative team to provide project management and design services for the future Watson Long-Term Care Home. 

The Harvest edition of Meal in the Field got underway this week as the Gursky (Kevin & Sherry) Farm from the Humboldt area were the lucky recipients this past week.  

Currently a second-generation farm operation, but already future generations are already involved out as the fourth generation of the Gurskys are helping out with this year's harvest.

While harvest in the province is ahead of the five-year average at 15 per cent completion, for many farmers in the east central area, continued moisture is putting a hold on proceedings. Isolated areas in the region have experienced severe weather with scattered August storms says the Ministry of Agriculture in its latest crop report for August 13-19.
