Town of Lanigan decides "no" to by-election
The Town of Lanigan has elected not to hold a by-election to replace recently resigned councillor Velda Daelick. Daelick’s resignation came on December 29, 2023. However, Town Council received notice of the resignation on January 8, 2024. The decision to withhold the by-election is largely due to the timing of the upcoming general municipal elections being held in the province slated for November 13, 2024.
Museum invites public participation in Truth and Reconciliation talk
The Humboldt and District Museum invites the public to join them on Wednesday, January 24 for an in-person Lunch and Learn talk from the Office of the Treaty Commissioner entitled “Building Your Next Steps for Truth and Reconciliation Through Treaty Implementation.” The presentation was rescheduled from the previous date in November.
Bond secured for former Wynyard auto dealership
The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA) is informing consumers that the bond issued to 102069557 Saskatchewan Ltd. dba Big Q Auto has been demanded and paid. The news of the bond being secured came via a release from the Government of Saskatchewan. Consumers who suffered a financial loss as a result of their vehicle transaction with Big Q Auto may be eligible to file a claim for financial loss.
Big Q Auto operated as a licensed vehicle dealer in Wynyard, Saskatchewan until November 24, 2022.
The Humboldt and District Sports Hall of Fame and Museum announces 2024 inductees
The Humboldt and District Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has release the names of five individuals who will be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees represent another grouping of the finest athletes and sports builders the community and area has produced in the last few decades.
The induction ceremony is slated for April 5, 2024 with more information to follow. This year’s inductees, released by the Hall of Fame and Museum, are as follows:
Broncos let one slip away to Millionaires in overtime
It came down to a couple minutes overtime, but the Melville Millionaires came up fast in the third period to erase a Humboldt Broncos lead and take a 6-5 victory last night in Melville.
The Mills struck first in the opening frame, by Spencer Bell tied it up.
Humboldt got the edge in the second period scoring four goals to the Millionaires two. Goals came in from Maddox Amaral, Jacob Strizzi with his first Bronco goal, Brayden Skogstad and Daylan Weigel.
New Highway Hotline cameras provide better condition insight in Humboldt area
A pair of new cameras are running or being installed along Highway 6 to give motorists and the provincial Highway Hotline a real time view of conditions. The newly announced installs are near Dafoe and near Naicam on the CanAm Highway.
They are among six new cameras, bringing the total number of static cameras deployed across the province to 50, according to a release from the Ministry of Highways.

Broncos treat crowd to first home ice win of the year, downing Terriers 5-1
A snow dust up didn't slow down the Humboldt Broncos on Tuesday night as they took care of the Yorkton Terriers at the EPA by a score of 5 - 1.
Connor Miller opened the scoring halfway in the first with an assist from Ben Constantino.
It wasn't until late in the second when the Broncos struck again, the first off a Cage Newans marker with help from Daylan Wiegel. Then Weigel and Spencer Bell got the assists on a Matthew Van Blaricom power play effort.
Environment Canada issues snowfall warning for Humboldt area
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Humboldt area and expects heavy snow to begin midday Tuesday through to Wednesday afternoon.
Environment Canada says the Humboldt area can expect 10 to 15 cm of snow.
