Heroes Christopher and Joseph Novecosky honoured posthumously with Carnegie Medal

In an incredible act of heroism and sacrifice, Joe and Chris Novecosky rushed to the aid of family members who had fallen through the ice on Humboldt Lake last November.  

Joe and Chris perished in their efforts to rescue seven-year-old Ava Novecosky and six-year-old Evelyn Novecosky who had been playing on the frail ice. For their heroism, the pair has posthumously been awarded the Carnegie Medal for Heroism. 

HCI's Marie Millette wins HCAA's Kent Lessmeister Scholarship

The Horizon Central Athletic Association proudly announced the recipient of the 2024 Kent Lessmeister Memorial Scholarship.  

This year’s deserving recipient is graduate Marie Millette from Humboldt Collegiate Institute. Marie will be attending St. Peter’s College in Muenster in the fall of 2024 to attain her first year in Kinesiology and will then be heading to the University of Saskatchewan to complete her degree.  

2024 SHSAA Merit Award bestowed upon Wynyard’s Trevor Otsig

Wynyard’s Trevor Otsig was recently awarded the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association’s highest honor, the Merit Award, at the SHSAA Annual General Meeting. This award is given by the SHSAA to honor those who have provided outstanding leadership and service and the promotion of high school athletics within their school athletic district and province as a whole.

The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox suffer a 4-2 loss to the Sask Five Marlins

The East Central AAA 18U Red Sox suffered a 4-2 loss to the Sask Five Marlins last night in SPBL action. 

The Marlins struck first with a double by Willis Simair for the opening run.  

Kacen Hyra returned the favour for the Red Sox with a single RBI in the top of the third. In the bottom of the same inning, Simair smacked a triple for another pair followed by a Rhett Anderson sacrifice fly to take it to 4-1 for the Marlins.  

Food safety tips following a power outage

With potential power outages becoming more of a possibility due to unstable weather, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is reminding residents to take extra precautions frozen and refrigerated food is safe after a power outage. 

For refrigerated food, potentially hazardous food that is above 4°C (40°F) for more than two hours should be discarded.  

Explore the natural beauty of the Humboldt and District Heritage Garden

Saturday, June 22 was a beautiful day for a stroll through the garden. More specifically, Saturday morning was a perfect plant moment despite the turbulent clouds bubbling through the atmosphere. Volunteers at Humboldt’s Heritage Garden in the downtown core welcomed visitors for a tour and interpretive session.  

Humboldt Lanigan RCMP need help in two theft cases

Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP is asking for the public’s help in tracking down thieves in a pair of incidents.  

Sometime during the early morning of June 10, 2024, a red Earthquake Chipper Shredder was stolen from a business along highway 5 in Humboldt. The suspect arrived riding a pedal bike. The matter is still under investigation by the Humboldt RCMP detachments. 

LOCATED: Warman RCMP asking for assistance in locating 14-year-old girl

RCMP have located Kayde McKay safe. Officers thank the public for their assistance.

On June 21, 2024, Warman RCMP received a report of a missing 14-year-old girl, Kayde McKay.

Kayde was last seen in area of Wanuskewin Heritage Park on June 21 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Since she was reported missing, Warman RCMP have been checking places Kayde is known to visit and following up on information received. They are now asking member of the public to report all information on her whereabouts.
