Sights and sounds of the season at Museum and Gallery

Humboldt’s downtown welcomed the seasonal spirit once again with a pair of special visits on Saturday.

At the Humboldt and District Museum, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus dropped by for a visit to meet all the kids and find out all about their Christmas wishes. The Museum had colouring and craft activities for the kids as they waited their turn for a visit with the Jolly Old Elf. Both Santa and Mrs. Claus were in great spirits and happy to be back in Humboldt. They’ll be making return visits for the next few Saturdays.

The Humboldt Broncos got the first win on their northern swing as they defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves 4-2 last night.

Travis Bryson opened up the scoring for the Broncos a little past the halfway mark of the first. La Ronge tied it up in the second, courtesy of Mason Bueckert.

Then Spencer Bell lit up the Mel Hegland Arena with the first of three goals, an unassisted effort coming in the last minute of the second period.

Music with Ian Elliot delight Festival of Wreaths visitors

The Festival of Wreaths continued this weekend, and Saturday patrons had an extra treat as Humboldt pianist and composer Ian Eliot stopped by to tickle the keys. While bidders browsed, they enjoyed the wide range of Elliot’s talents. From contemporary pieces to time honoured classics and even the challenging themes of Vince Guaraldi’s heralded soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Ian covered the best with his own style.

RCMP investigate stolen "Hog" lights in Englefeld

Humboldt/ Lanigan RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects involved in multiple thefts of decorative lights in the Town of Englefeld.

The thefts reportedly occurred sometime between the commencement of this year's “hog” fest in July 2023 and November 17, 2023.

RCMP believes that the thieves either used a ladder or an extendable pole to knock the lights down. Each light is custom-made and is owned by the Town of Englefeld.

Humboldt and Lanigan RCMP say this is still under investigation.
