RCMP continue to investigate fatal crash near Plunkett
Highway 16 was closed for a period of time on June 28 due to a multi-vehicle collision that occurred just west of Plunkett. After completing a preliminary investigation, Saskatoon RCMP confirmed a five-ton truck was travelling west when it collided with a cargo van.
The driver and sole occupant of the five-ton truck was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 40-year-old male from Yorkton, SK. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been engaged.
Dayna Brons Honorary Award goes to Kamloops Blazers captain Logan Stankoven
This year’s winner of the Dayna Brons Honorary Award from Hockey Gives Blood has been announced. This year’s recipient is Logan Stankoven, captain of the WHL Kamloops Blazers.
The Dayna Brons Award was established by Hockey Gives Blood to honour the young Lake Lenore woman who was lost in the Humboldt Broncos tragedy in 2018. Dayna’s commitment to blood donation and supporting others lives on through the legacy award.
Humboldt RCMP looking for apartment looters
Humboldt RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individual(s) responsible for a break, enter and theft of an apartment building on 10th Street in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.
On June 17, 2023, the Humboldt RCMP received a complaint that someone was seen exiting an abandoned apartment building on 10th Street. Further inspection revealed that some copper pipe had been stolen.
Locals learn the time-honoured art of flint knapping at Original Humboldt
The delicate and precise art of flint knapping was the focus of a workshop on Saturday June 24 at the site of Original Humboldt. The art of fashioned sharp tools and weapon heads is being kept alive by Masters student and Indigenous knowledge keeper Gabriel Marchand. Marchand has been in Humboldt previously with a demonstration put on at the Humboldt and District Gallery earlier this spring.
Planned power outage for north of Bruno, south of Dafoe
SaskPower announces a planned power outage for resident north of Bruno on Wednesday, June 28. The outage is scheduled rom1:00pm to 2:30pm affecting customers in rural area northeast of Bremen.
As well, an outage from 1:00 - 5:00 pm will take place on June 28 affecting rural customers in an area south of Dafoe.
The outages are necessary for system maintenance, and SaskPower thanks customers for their understanding.
A colourful celebration - Humboldt Music and Food Festival
Hundreds of people packed the Uniplex grounds for a sensory experience that only the area’s Filipino community could provide. The Humboldt Music and Food Festival, in celebration of Filipino Heritage Month, delighted the crowds on Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. The street fair style celebration hosted a wide variety of food vendors, serving favourites such as pancit noodles, grilled pork belly, charcoal barbecued skewers and much more.
Canada Day Countdown - LeRoy Leisureland lights up the night
Canada Day celebrations abound in east central Saskatchewan. To kick off our Canada Day Countdown, we stop at LeRoy Leisureland, home to this year’s Canada Day Celebration put on by the LeRoy and District Recreation Board and Leisureland.
There’s free entrance to the park and swimming area all day. Smokie on a bun and a drink will be available for $5.

A warm summer night on Main Street in Watson was the perfect backdrop for Street Fest, the annual musical gathering put on by the Watson Fire Department. The festival went on Friday, June 23.

It was a busy weekend on area ball diamonds with tournaments in Humboldt and Muenster.
UPDATE: Mervin Poorman arrested in hit and run fatality
RCMP have located and arrested 33-yeear-old Mervin Poorman, charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. The victim was a child who was declared deceased at the scene.
Poorman was taken into custody on June 23 in Cold Lake, Alberta
The fatal hit and run took place on the evening of June 22
on George Gordon First Nation.
It's unknown when Poorman will be returned to Saskatchewan and when his first court appearance will be.
