Provincial teachers' bargaining faces challenges
The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation and the provincial Government – Trustee bargaining team are working to find common ground on a collective agreement, but a release by the Federation indicates there is much work to do on some fronts.

Today is Tim Hortons Camp Day where Tim Horton's purchases help to connect underserved youth with empowering experiences across Canada. The camps are designed to empower young people to believe in their own potential and help them to participate in leadership development programs. Purchases of coffee, camp day bracelets and Tim Horton's baked goods all help support the cause.
Fantastic tournout for Humboldt Museum's ice cream day
Ice cream is a favourite summertime treat, and the Humboldt and District Museum was the downtown distributor or Saturday. The Museum’s annual handmade ice cream day drew a great crowd for a scoop or two and some fun-time activities for the kids.
There were 143 happy attendees at the event. Young and old lined up for the icy treat and then stayed to visit some of the exhibits. The proceeds of the event are going to the Historic Water Tower re-painting project.
Air quality statement issued as smoke blankets region
Smoke and haze could be the watchwords through the weekend in the Humboldt Watrous areas. Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement in response to wildfire smoke that’s blanketing much of the province. The statement forecasts smoke to last for much of Friday, if not through the weekend as northwesterly winds continue to drag smoke from northern fires.
Local RMs receive funding for road improvements
The RMs of Three Lakes and Usborne are among the couple dozen that will receive the benefits of a $13 million cash injection from the provincial government for road improvements. A provincial government release states that more than 31 municipalities and communities are set to receive $13 million through the Rural Integrated Roads for Growth (RIRG) program to address 34 projects.
NDP says leaked SHA memo a sign of government failure in health worker recruitment strategy
Saskatchewan’s Opposition NDP further criticized the provincial government’s strategies in health care recruitment when it released a leaked memo from the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Opposition Leader Carla Beck and Health Critic Vicki Mowat gathered with media members on July 12 outside the Regina General Hospital where a bed closure in its Intensive Care Unit seems imminent. The memo’s contents indicate that a number of contracts were cancelled at the last minute leaving no staff replacement until summer’s end.
BHP donates $200,000 to Humboldt District Hospital Foundation
BHP presented the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation with a $200,000.00 donation in support of priority equipment needs.
BHP’s donation will enable the Foundation to commit to funding two bladder scanners that will support Inpatients, emergency and Home Care; Glidescope for emergency as well as enhanced operating room equipment that will benefit our surgeons and their patients.
Dodgers and Red Sox work a weekend on the diamonds
Once again, it was a busy weekend on Saskatchewan’s ball diamonds with local teams in the chase for provincial glory. Congratulations to the Humboldt U11 Thunder parents, coaches and volunteers on hosting a successful weekend provincial tournament.
Aquatic centre and fitness room closing soon for maintenance
The City of Humboldt Community and Leisure Services Department announces the shutdown of the aquatic centre and fitness room for maintenance starting on July 31 and running until August 18.
All memberships will be paused and then resume when the facility reopens.
