Last week marked another busy week in the sales ring across the West.

Manitoba feeder steer prices ranged from $469.19 per cwt for the 401 to 500 pound weights to $270.56 per cwt for the 901 + category

Feeder heifer prices ranged from $389.72 per cwt for the 401 to 500 pounds to $246.13 per cwt for the 901 + category

Saskatchewan steer prices ranged from $427.50 per cwt for the 500-600lb weight category down to $313.00 per cwt in the 800-900lb weight category. 

Feeder heifer prices ranged from $402.33 per cwt for the 400-500lb weight category to $286.50 per cwt for the 800+lb weight category.  

Due to limited cash trade, the Canfax price for Alberta fed steers on the week ending February 23 was unavailable.  The last price was $219.73 per cwt for the week ending February 16.

Slaughter cow prices increased last week, in Manitoba D1-D2 cows averaged $127.44 per cwt, with D3's averaging $112.80 per cwt

The price of D2 cows in Alberta averaged $144.10 per cwt while  D3 cows averaged $128.97 per cwt.

The rail price for non-fed cattle in Alberta was up $5.00 on both ends.

The industry has seen a significant drop in feed grain prices from a year ago.
 
For the week ending February 23rd Lethbridge barley was selling for $281 per tonne as compared to $424.50 per tonne a year ago.
