Now that the merger of the SaskCanola and Sask Flax Commissions is official, work on setting up the new Board of Directors is underway.

The two organization officially became a single organization in August, when they opened the call for individuals with leadership experience to sit at the board table as they move through this transition.

The SaskOilseeds Board will be comprised of eight farmer-elected directors including Jon Fehr from Herschel, Anthony Eliason from Outlook, Margaret Rigetti from Moose Jaw and Ed Schafer from Makwa.

Nominations for the other four board positions are now open with each position being for a four-year term beginning January 2025.

Executive Director Tracy Broughton says producers interested in sitting on the SaskOilseeds board have until 12 noon Central Standard time on Monday, September 30th to apply.

"The regulations are such that we need to have people who have grown and sold canola or flax in the last two years ( August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024) and not requested a refund in the past year."

Director responsibilities include five board meetings per year, plus participation on committees and appointments to external industry-related boards. This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative, professional team to represent and advance the interests of Saskatchewan farmers.
