Busy day has RCMP on the lookout for multiple suspects

The Central Plains RCMP are investigating four incidents from June 24. Hoping to find the suspects, the RCMP is urging citizens to submit any information they may have.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report on that day, of a building sustaining damage to a window in the 100 block of Royal Road North. The damage had occurred sometime over the weekend.

Sometime in the early hours of the same day, items were stolen from a property in the 1100 block of Crescent Road West in Portage. The items had been left on the driveway near the house. 

MFNPS charge Sandy Bay man after assault and drug bust 

A man from Sandy Bay First Nation is facing charges following an assault and search of a residence in the community.

Members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) were investigating a domestic assault on June 15. The investigation led to a search warrant and further charges for drugs and weapons possession on Lake Road in Sandy Bay.

Southport's Annual General Meeting sees new Director elected

Another Annual General Meeting has come and gone for Southport. The 32nd edition saw it's Board of Directors, General Members, staff and special guest come together to discuss the 2023-2024 fiscal year in the Hilly Brown Building in Southport.

The AGM began with Southport's Board Chair, Dale Lyle, highlighting a successful 2023-2024 year and included welcoming new General members and announcing the appointment MNP LLP as auditors for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. 

Tough weekend for Central Energy softball

U17 Central Energy went 1-1 against both of their weekend opponents, the Eastman Wildcats and the Westman Magic. 

The scored a 2-1 victory in the first matchup with Eastman before falling 9-2 in the next game.

Then, in a doubleheader in Brandon, they defeated the Westman Magic 8-0 before losing a heartbreaker, 7-6 in which they gave up the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. With only one inning left, Central was unable to regain the tie.

Neepawa RCMP investigate fatal accident near Gladstone Sunday

It was a tragic Sunday afternoon just south of Highway 16, near Gladstone.

At roughly 12:20 p.m., Neepawa  RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 34.

A southbound minivan was making a U-turn on Highway 34, when a motorcycle travelling south collided with the van.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 21-year-old man from Austin, died at the scene.

The driver of the mini-van, a 78-year-old man and the passenger, a 73-year-old woman, were not physically injured.

Beach safety top of mind for provincial government 

During an announcement Thursday, Environment and Climate Change Minister Tracy Schmidt encouraged Manitobans to hit the beaches this summer but do it safely.

“Manitoba has so many beautiful beaches and lakes, offering Manitobans many opportunities to swim, soak their feet, and enjoy the water. We encourage all Manitobans to be vigilant in and around the water,” said Schmidt. 

Manitoba RCMP searching for suspect in Fisher Branch homicide

Manitoba Mounties are continuing to search for a suspect concerning a homicide in Fisher Branch earlier this month.

Jerome Albert Moore, 23 years old, is wanted by Major Crime Services for Manslaughter in relation to the June 1 death.

This comes after the body of a 51-year-old man from the Fisher River Cree Nation had been located in the RM of Fisher on June 1.

Suspect in custody after "Serious incident" Tuesday in Portage

Manitoba RCMP are reporting that a suspect is in custody after an incident involving a report of a possibly armed & agitated man at a McLenaghen Drive residence in Portage la Prairie.

PortageOnline was on the scene while officers looked for the suspect and saw a drone dispatched over the McLenaghen Drive property Tuesday afternoon.

The roadway was blocked at Hwy 240 and partway down McLenaghen Drive as a part of the police investigation.

Youths put in danger during incident at Microtel in Portage on Saturday

Emergency services attended the Microtel in Portage on Saturday night after a disturbance occurred inside.

A witness, who requested anonymity, stated that the incident occurred on the second floor in the late evening.

The witness reported seeing several figures running past their door through the peephole, and tasting mace or pepper spray as soon as they turned away from their door.

They noted that as soon as they tasted it, precautions were taken to seal off the door, to little effect.

RCMP issue two tickets in traffic stop on Highway 1

A man faces a meeting with MPI after being pulled over for travelling well over the speed limit and having a radar detector in his vehicle.

At 3:22 p.m. on June 6, an RCMP officer, in an unmarked police car, was patrolling Highway 1 when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar was activated and clocked a reading of 180km/h, before the vehicle very quickly slowed to 110 in the clearly marked 110 km/h zone.
