Van filled with Inuit art set to make its way across Manitoba

Museums and art galleries are closed to the public but one of Winnipeg Art Gallery's centres is going on the road.

Manitoba150 is hoping to introduce people to Inuit art by bringing it to their own communities, starting on Monday. An initiative named Tour150 will be opening up its doors, bringing a taste of Qaumajuq, an Inuit art centre located at the WAG, to people across the province.

July 1: Two cases of COVID-19 reported

The Northwestern Health Unit has reported two new cases of COVID-19 in the district.

A case in each of the Sioux Lookout Region and District of Rainy River were reported.

There are currently 10 active cases of COVID-19 in the region. Eight cases are in the District of Rainy River and there is one case in each of the Kenora and Sioux Lookout regions.

Cochrane will Open for Summer with zero active COVID-19 cases

On the eve of Stage 3 of Open for Summer, Cochrane is reporting zero active cases while Rocky View County is reporting 11 cases. 

The province reported 76 new cases in the past 24 hours with a positivity rate of 1.2 per cent.

The province now has 1,055 active cases.

There are 165 people in the hospital with 34 in ICU.

Sadly, two deaths were reported including a man in his 20's, he is the eleventh death under the age of 30 in Alberta. 

Expectant mothers with COVID 4 to 11 times more likely to need intensive care

Dr. Joss Reimer is addressing things people may have been hearing about the COVID-19 vaccine regarding women's menstrual health and fertility.

The doctor is answering COVID-19 vaccine questions regarding women's health topics that she says people may be talking about.

"I want to be able to reassure you about the vaccine in all of these settings," Reimer says in a Wednesday press conference.

Province announcing 70 COVID cases, 2 deaths Wednesday

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations continues to follow a steady decline.

As of Wednesday morning, there are 70 new COVID-19 cases in Manitoba including:

  • 29 cases in the Winnipeg health region
  • 20 cases in the Northern health region
  • 12 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region
  • seven cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • two cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region

Of the province's total 56,167 cases, 53,631 individuals have recovered and 1,395 cases are active.

June 30: One new case COVID-19 confirmed

The Northwestern Health Unit has confirmed one new positive case of COVID-19 across the region.

The newly confirmed positive test was reported in the District of Rainy River area. Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

Currently, there are 8 active COVID-19 cases across the NWHU catchment area. Seven active cases in the Rainy River Health Region and one active case in the Kenora Health Region. 

Deena Hinshaw's last regular in-person conference

On Tuesday afternoon, Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Deena Hinshaw addressed the province in the last regular in-person COVID-19 update.

Hinshaw had announced last week that the updates would no longer involve an in-person portion, unless necessary, to give the COVID-19 data tracking staff a much-needed break after three hefty waves of the pandemic. Hinshaw also said they will no longer provide case number updates during the weekend unless numbers made drastic changes.

NWHU advises people on Canada Day safety

Tomorrow, is Canada Day, a day where we as Canadians get to celebrate Canada’s birthday with friends and families.

Step Two of the provinces Roadmap begun today bringing with it outdoor gatherings with up to 25 people and indoor gatherings allowance of up to 5 people. This allows residents to enjoy the holiday with outdoor BBQs, fireworks, family gatherings, and many other things.

The Northwestern Health Unit Medical Officer Dr. Kit Young Hoon gave advice on how residents can stay safe on Canada Day in a media briefing yesterday.
